Marvin if you are after activated charcoal you can get it in bags from aquarium supply stores. I'm not sure if the size of the particals are the same as the original but you could place a piece of steel flywire in the bottom to stop them falling through.

There's a metal mesh at the top to stop them coming out there and just a plastic bit at the bottom pushed up by a spring. The charcoal I got wass smaller than what was in there but I bought some of the filter wool stuff to go in between.
