Just to clear up a misconception with the P Plate on a race car.

When you first get your CAMS licence you have a provisional licence (C3) until you compete in 5 events in 24 months and get 5 signatures on your licence from clerk of the course. Until you do this you stay with your C3 and have to display a P plate on the back of your race car.

A lot of drivers who only race a couple of times a year (it's damn expensive) decide only to get two signatures on their licence in 24 months and can just stay on a 3C licence for even (and display a P plate for ever). This can have it's disadvatages if you want to race in a National series or at Bathurst (in support category) you need to have C4 or c5 licence.

Re The pix, they appeared in Auto ACtion a couple of years ago.

Great pix there mate - yes very sobering stuff...

The white foamy stuff is most likely AFFF(Aqueous Film Forming Foam) which is a fire retardant and forms a film over volatile liquids eg: deep fat fryers, petrol, LPG etc...
We use it on the ship but the stuff is a biological disaster as it doesnt break down and just sits there for eons in the water supplys. The really cool thing about it though is that it will clean anything metal better than an acid dip - it is fantastic stuff in that respects. I say this because during the pre commissioning period for HMAS Stuart, some numpty activated the aft(back for you non-swabbies...) AFFF station which feeds directly into the helo hangar. The pump automatically configures the firemain to mix the AFFF solution to 6 percent and will pump out water/AFFF mixture at a rate of 1500 gallons every 30 seconds. Sufficient to say the hangar filled up with foam to the deckhead(roof) of the hangar but cleaned every inch of it in the process...

Sorry - waffling now. Just thought you would like to know we arent all rocket scientists in the defence forces...lol

What a rush that would have been.......The only acsident I had was in my Mums Clubby..Greystance park parked beside a truck and could not see around it.....So I pulled out....a Ford Metro hit me square on the DS nose he ended up 100 meters up the road..My mate was flung out the pas door and I had to explain it to mum and dad...They were not happy

skssgn.... just had a look at your site......... a very very sobering story about your first Cooper S...... that was one hell of an impact

yeah, very sobering indeed..... I think I've slowed down, I'm certainly more careful on downhill curves now, I get pretty nervous. I have an injury that will be with me for the rest of my life - my right collarbone is detached from my shoulder blade and moves freely - try grabbing your collarbone and moving it, they're meant to be attached pretty tight. A neat party trick is to hunch my shoulder and make it stick right up, it stands about an inch up from the rest of my shoulder....
