how do I check if its sticking??? or is there anything I can check myself without having to take it somewhere to be looked at?

What pressure do you get when the engine is stone cold. i.e. first thing in the morning? It is my experience that you most mini engines should have 60-65psi (Cooper S have 75-80psi) cold.

When the oil is cold it is thicker and the oil pressure will be higher. If you have low oil pressure from cold and it doesn't improve when warm then it is likely to be the pressure relief valve that is playing up.

it's not that hard to get out...

i used a 1 inch spanner and some long nose plyers..

spring comes out easily, if you can't move it with your finger, use something the get it out..

i put the plyers in closed then opened the in the valve and pulled it out...

if the valve is scratched up and down the sides, then it was sticking, if not.... :(
