i thort em was all bald from doing a few 'burnout runs' before switching to a new set when tyres were getting a bit low. I too have a set of straight out baldies. (not my own work)

the reason mini drivers drive on bald tyres is because the tyre sizes these days arnt that common and there are only a few brands still doing them, at work we will only get one brand in and thats bridgestones but ive out sourced and managed to get falkens for a very good price from the warehouse, but thats the reason behind it

ull get it cheaper at the warehouse, tyre companys charge more for odd sizes cause they are uncommon and it needs to pay for frieght but that exactly proves my point

First off, I've seen lots of bald tyres... But they're usually for burnout cars.  The few second hand Mini tyres I've seen (on wheels) were generally on old stocko steelies, usually warped rims and tyres that were so hard and old that I wouldn't touch them, and old enough for me not to know whether they had much more tread than that when they were new.

Something interesting recently was that a Pirelli rep stated (off the record) that they don't really make any money on anything under 17" wheels. Over that they make a killing, but there's no profit margin on anything smaller. Well, not for them, anyway. :?

And a slight hijack... Thanks 1310/71

My bugbear is people with faulty headlights who drive with one light out and the other on high beam to compensate - change the bulb people, it's not that hard!

A few years ago a Mini I had ran for about 18 months, mostly on high beam. There was a weird short in the speedo - at 0 it was on low beam, then, as speed increased, it would pulse between low and high beam until, by 35mph, it was permanently on high beam. Never got flashed once!
