You better go take another look, they all are straight cut, 3 synchro or 4. 8)

According to my workshop manual 1st is straight cut.

Later gearboxes have synchro on 1st aswell

I guess to know you want to quote th number on the front of it, and go to http://www.hotbricks.org.au/techtips/articles/gearbox.txt

PS - I've been told some of the numbers on of engine and boy numbers (different page) are incorrect so these amy not 100% correct.

<edit> everyone got in before me on that one. And down gear? You can't say in top forever! I guess dropping it down a gear and flooring basically thrashing is not good, I generally change down as I slow down so when it's time to accelerate im alrady in the correct gear as opposed to braking in top gear down to 40 then dropping it into third to take off. If that makes any sense.

Using the gearbox to slow down with from high speed is worse for the engine than the box. It's the prime cause of cracked centre main bearing caps.
So says Sydney's #1 Mini performance engine builder...

Yeah-
Change the oil every 1500 miles, filter every 3000. Works for me. 8)

Sorry for entering this conversation so late but:

OK let me get this straight, you have a worked 1100 and you are worried about the gearbox being too weak? Forget about it. Get a good 4 synchro box of your choice, rebuild it properly. Mini gearboxes are pretty tough, and for those who think otherwise don't forget that any gearbox will be on average 25-30yrs old in current condition, so it is no wonder that some of you have problems. Let's see how good Toyota/BMW/[insert modern manufacturer here] are in 25-30yrs time...

When I was rebuilding my engine, i wanted the best down the bottom that I could get (and afford) and the conclusion I came up with is just to rebuild a good 4 synchro box. My research sort of ended with these 2 facts:

Grant (Boostedmini) ran a supercharged 1310 for about 1-2 years or so. He made 140? hp or there abouts and his gearbox was fine.

DrMini who runs a 125ish hp car for like 4-5 years on the same gearbox. No problems so far.

I am currently running a 1330cc 120hp donk on a stock std, fully rebuilt 4 synchro box and I have all the confidence that the gearbox will outlast the engine.

Engines and Gearboxes don't destroy themselves, the problem lies between the steering wheel and the seat.

i agree with lillie, build it properly and you shouldnt have issues. matt the mini man has a 1500 stroker with a standard box and its fine.
