Ryan,
If your speedo is like mine, I would'nt put any faith in knowing what speed I was doing. On one of my other cars I had the speedo "calibrated" while it was being dynoed by the same people who calibrate all the speedos for the highway patrol cars (Injection Perfection at Bankstown - or at least they used to). It happened by fluke than good management, that 100kph actual on the dyno was smack on indicated on the speedo.

I've never done the same on the mini but suspect it would be way out. Maybe those dynoing their car, should consider asking if they can use the run to calibrate their speedo to 60, 80, 100 while they're at it. At least you would know what error there is between indicated and actual and mentally compensate accordingly.

Worth more to you than just knowing the HP!

Stupid thing to say, but, it wasn't a Mp/h hour speedo you have there???

my brother and I took the mini for a run up past the out rigger in ettalong and around there. After flooring it for a bit, troy looked disappointed, and said, gee, I only got it up to 60 there. I promtly reminded him it was mp/h, which he had forgotten....

His sig says "98 Rover", I guess it depends on whether it is a japanese or english import as to which. But I would think if he thought he was only doing 60, it would not be 60mph. 100kph (give or take a few) is a little obvious that you are doing more than 60kph.

Doesn't matter where they were, you were speeding. That's illegal full stop.

My speedo reads so far wrong that I have to double the mph figure to get the kmh speed.

Think it got messed up when the engine & gearbox got changed - first time i drove it (in the UK) after the changeI thought that there was a serious problem when I could barely get the car to 70mph on the motorway...then I realised that I was overtaking pretty-much every other car on the road - turns out I was actually doing about 85mph (140kmh)!

Now i run with the GPS on most of the time which at least shows me the correct speed (albeit with a half-second lag).

Must get around to having the speedo recalibrated sometime but in all honesty I think it would be worse if it was correct cos the kmh markings on my speedo are pretty small and in yellow and are very hard to read whereas the mph is easy and it's not exactly difficult to multiply by 2!

Hehehehe - didn't I hear a story once about a certain datsun P510 driver who was letting his then girlfriend drive his hotted car along along the freeway. She made some comment that the datto only did a 100. And the datto owner had to point out that that was mph not kph.

It's awesome how you guys always whinge about cops not marking themselves properly and stuff. :?

I couldnt care about speed testing cops. As i dont speed. Until i got caught a while ago a few days before i got my full amount of points, after 3 years of not getting any. I didnt like it. I didnt know i was speeding at the time. i suppose i was watching the road or something.
At the time i thought i was going to lose my license. but i got some time when they got transfered the infringment(s) into my name. So i didnt. I was pissed off. But i suppose i did it. So that was that.
I was annoyed that i did stand to get the same punishment that someone getting caught doing 150 of the highway would get. I wasnt doing anywhere near that. But it would have been almost the same.

Also something that is completely irrelevent but i still like the idea of it. A gradeing system for fines or something. Such that if i get an $80 fine which is the lowest for speeding i think. That would stuff me up for a month. Living alone, doing overtime every week, wont give me $280 a week to live on. So a fine of any sort is really bad for me. Id have to go without food or something? Yet someone more well off such as the average wage, couldnt care less about a $110 fine really. A few hours work.

So a very low income card for speeding fine reduction sounds good to me 8) :P
But i dont really care cause i dont speed  8)

agreed......it sucks to get caught speeding but things like this happen.

if you don't speed you wont get caught. in saying that. i've been caught a couple of times...

sucks to hear you got donme by seemingly a considerable amount, but if you do the crime you do the time, its fair enough

Camel - I am not sure but I think thats way below the minimum fine for NSW. Its along my arguement lines to have standardisation of several things in Australia. This includes all roads and traffic matters , police, health and education. They should be a federal government issue and simply administered by the states.

That way fines, speed limits, some state laws both archaic and some stupid would be all standardised.

As for a grading of fines for pensioners and students etc. It would be simply unworkable and chaotic. The fines are meant to hurt the pocket. In NSW its not hard to get a fine of nearly $1500 - more if you commit several offences - at that would leave you pretty skinny by trhe time you paid it off - btw, mostly if the matter goes to court, you can appeal for time to pay depending on your financial structure.

another quick question! LOL

when im goin down hil...l its a ONE lane and theres a car RIGHT in front of me!...then as we approach an up hill....it split into 2 lanes....i got onto the left and he got onto the right!

is it possible for the cop to clock the 87 as what the first car is doin?...come to think abt it why did i end up gettin one while the one in front didnt! if the car in front was goin at 60!...theres no way im doin 87!....

also!......could it be that Bcos i got onto the LEF lane which makes it easier for him to pull me ov??er?

Oh and the cop being "lenient" is just their way of appearing nice as they have to allow for a 5-8kph margin of error anyway for the offence to be prosecutable.

Close MIke, it is actually 3km over the limit. $77 and 3 points in the lowest fine in NSW atm. I thought threads similar to theses would have encouraged people not to post about getting fined. Maybee in future people can go to www.pleasefeelsorryformecauseimarichard .com

Unfortunately, that's obviously not the case.

I think Ryan's got the idea, so this one's being locked.

For future reference, can we suggest that people don't post about fines? :)
