I'm waiting for a mate to get back to me with the details of the gps units he uses on their earthmoving equip , small , easily hidden , internal antenna and battery backup . Might be worth looking into a group buy of these type of things .

I have suggested to Zack that he contacts Greg who got his red (my old) clubby stolen from the front of his house in Enmore. I hate tea leaves...scum.

Can I suggest also....that those effected think back and check on any one from Ausmini or who quoted Ausmini and showed a lot of interest in particular car(s)....after all, this place is like a supermarket for thieves.

My two cents worth for the mods

Yes make it a sticky with all the details but make it on the front page - not hidden in spotted or anywhere else. If its hidden then a lot of people dont go past the first couple of forums. Your own hit counters will tell you that as well.

This mini stealing industry is small bikkies compared to some other car stealing enterprises but its hurting mini-ists and the cars are not popping back up so they are going somewhere.

To recover these cars we need widespread people who have a very clear idea of whats stolen and where.

Zack, my heart goes out to you. Hope it turns up safe and sound.

I'm starting to get worried about leaving my car parked up whilst I spend the summer in the UK.
(NB to any bar-steward car thieves reading this - It will not be in my current suburb)

Looking at GPS tracking and the like - looks pretty expensive.

A budget option might be to use something like this -
http://www.gpstrackingaustralia.com.au/mobile-phone-tracking.html

Just use an old mobile, get a Telstra Prepay SIM, top it up and buy this service, then all you need to do is permanently wire the mobile up somewhere out of sight in the car. Up and running for $50...

Does that make sense - Is there something I'm missing? I guess the only thing is making sure that the pre-pay credit does not expire and that it might not be as accurate as GPS....[edit]... also doesn't have the ability to disable the car but as a first line of enquiry immediately after the theft might be worthwhile for those on a budget.[/edit]

PS don't wanna spruik any particular companies, this just happened to be at the top of a google search.

Any thoughts...?

Good enough for Subaru, HSV, etc, good enough for me.

http://www.datadotdna.com/australia/dta ... hicles.htm

These dots are tiny and very hard to see with the naked eye, impossible to remove all of them once they've been sprayed onto a car. The police in every state have been issued with the UV lights to be able to find the dots and the microscope to be able to read the information off the dot. They can steal your car but know that it's worthless as parts as your id is all over them, waiting for one day to be able to incriminate them.

The sooner others join me in getting your cars and valuable parts done, the better. 8)

Agree with BIAM - too many coincidences to be random. GPS would be a big plus and food for thought. Some of them can be installed innocuously and have batteries that can also be hidden and therefore harder to spot. I am doing a look-see with some of the companies down here at that very thing.

Sounds like a vendetta I know but I am sick of good peoples hard work being pinched and resold to undeserving people by pricks!

Sounds terrible and cynical too, but when you are on the forum, mind your P's and Q's.Not worth getting worked up over, but mind the personal details you are giving out on the forum. would you give your address to a derelict at the bus stop? then why give it out here, salvos give them internet access these days.

Think carefully about what information you want to post, last names, locations, photos giving away street locations near your house, obvious sigs with number plates, home phone numbers etc etc. All these can be used very easily to find your address.

If anyone remembers the furor bought about by www.boonghunter.com, you would know that they can find your address from your phone number in a couple of minutes, and also your neighbours and the person next to them etc by a simple list of the street. All this can also be purchased as a information database from the local government for about 20 dollars per state. All they need is your last name and a suburb. And if your last name isn't smith or wong, they'll have you locvated in a few minutes. A street name from a description of your area, or a business name and a suburb..and they may have you pinned down if your car is interesting.

If it's worth the bother of them targeting your car, it is no trouble for them to find out where you live from a few too many clues (....looks at own sig, thinks about his old posts and rolls his eyes....).

Choose carefully who you would want to have driving to your house to pick up that 5 dollar part.

if anyone else has a stolen mini please PM me (dont post in this thread) and we should talk to get all the diff police stations working together on this.

No need to go as vague as just saying the state you're in though , otherwise people won't know if you're close enough to give you a hand or buy/sell something to you . If you want to be safe then just stick with the region/area you're in . I don't live in Coffs though it is the nearest large center to me that people identify . You can use nth Sydney , western Sydney , Sydney , Hunter Valley , Newcastle , Northern rivers or whatever to make it vague but still let people know the general area .

Sorry to hear this mate, i just wonder wether there are people accessing these forums to gain info on possible cars they could steal.

It has just been to much of a coincidence that all these inner city minis have been stolen lately???

If there are anymore in the inner city please try and find a garage or somewhere safe to parh your mini.

Dan
