i'm on your side here... not that there are any, anyway ;)

the discussion will be going around in circles as long as you both have those differing opinions....

using this logic that's floating around, i may not have either a Morris or a Mini...

I would have a BMC 850

I don't think there is any suggestion of a roundnose, just a morris ID plate?
he said he bought a yellow clubbie.
I think the "using up old ID plates" is more feasible.

Thanks Kev, i was at the end of my 2nd bottle of wine at that time, my reading & comprehension skills were lacking

We had a similar debate about this on another forum.

One knob was insisting Clubmans after 1973 were "Leyland Mini" and therefore the term "Clubman" should not be used to refer to them.

He shut up pretty quick when someone pointed out that a Mark 1 Cooper S does not have "MINI" on it anywhere, so using that logic, a Morris Cooper S is not a Mini.

My clubman is a 7/71, body number 841 (171 cars after yours) and it says "MINI YG2S7", So maybe they did have a couple of hundred Morris id tags left to get rid of..

Public servants... my Mini is Jet Red, the sticker says so- regardless, the dill at RTA wrote it up as orange...

The guy who sited and recorded my engine number at the transport department, mistook 4 as a 1, and 7 as a 0. So it's all a bit dodgy and could rear it's ugly head in the future, but I didn't realise until I got home and read through all the stuff.

I wonder if this was delierate as maybe someone rebirthed the Cooper S it came from using the original engine number (without original motor, d'oh I own it!) and registered it before me. (The S was burnt in a fire, but motor was being rebuilt at the time, Probably a rebodied faker going around......)

Funny thing is the knob was right! The Clubman name was only used for two years in Australia.

Would you refer to a Mini K as a Deluxe?
Would you refer to a Deluxe as an 850?
Why refer to a Leyland Mini as a Clubman?

The Clubman has the right gearbox, the right suspension and the right engine unlike the inferior Leyland Mini with the oil leaking gearbox, the rough suspension and the 998 motor. 8) (do not take this too seriously!)

Yes, agreed, but CLUBMAN has become a generic term for the square fronted cars, and that's what they were called in the UK too. So I reckon it's acceptable to call a "Leyland Mini" a "Clubman".

Cheers,

Agreed.

What gets me is the way that every pommie mini built after 1970 is now a Rover. :x

One of the Rover Mini owners on here got abused in the street one day for sticking Rover badges on his Mini!!  He couldn't believe it, but the average Fred out there knows nothing about Mini lineage after 1978.

Try the USA where every Mini is a Cooper (even if it has an 850 engine).
