From the pics his tyres look worn yes, but still able to channel water, and grip the road.

Not all uni students/apprentices live near their uni/place of apprenticeship.

Hanra, Sorry i told you to grow up but i think you stuck the boot in pretty hard there for a fairly poor reason.

Dixon,

Tyres are OK.

The dimples on the outside do dual duty as wear guides.

They don't look worn down to the wear indicators yet.
Nowhere near illegal.

What is the ruling on tyre wear. I thought the wording was a visible tread to a depth of 3/16th of an inch (yeah old measurement ruling I know) on all portion ot the tread surface.

I thought wear indicators were simply a guide not a legal issue ???

Its a question - not a challenge.

Used to be a match head, but that's nowhere near 3/16". an A032R wouldn't have 3/16", NEW...
If the wear indicator bars are showing it's definitely illegal though.

I have heard of people having fights with the fuzz over the A008 dimples. Some of em don't seem to regard it as `tread'.

 I just measured 3/16th - almost a quarter of an inch - silly me
Yep I remember match heads being put into my tyres by police on the Church Street Parramatta short run drag strips.

But the wording of the "visible tread" on all portions of the tread surface of the tyres ruling. Does that still have effect. ???

I know my local pink and blue man just looks at worn tyres and says "naw - that one has had it day". No measuring and usually no dispute because they look tired as does the tyre in the photo in this thread.

No. Tyres are very important. I usually replace them before they need to be.

hanra, uni is hardest for the kids without rich parents. Who gives a fat rat's pecker if a uni student has bald tyres,

Well my gf has had no assistance from her parents. She just works her ass off. And i care if a uni student has bald tyres cause i dont want them running up my ass at a set of traffic lights.

Don't suppose you did it hard for a while being a first year apprentice at all?

Nope, i lived at home for the 1st couple of years.

I dont' think I've ever had a problem with you before, but given the ignorance and intollerance you've shown in this thread alone, I'm suprised by that.

We dont' all have the luxury of living with mum and dad while studying. We all let little things go...I'd have left tyres like that alone for a while, and I'm damn sure you would have too. To get up on your high horse like that and come into a thread where a guy has just been hit in his mini just to throw insults around and call him irresponsible is uncalled for.

Pull your head in mate....we all make mistakes, and we live and learn. Or should we just call you "Almighty" and let it all be done with?

I gotta say if I had been defected for that tyre I'd be pretty pissed off - looks ok to me.

I also agree that the tyre looks legal from the photo.

You have the will, I would query it. I have elected to go to court for traffic offenses on several occasions where I thought it was justified and hae come out well.

Take the car to your states equivalent to the RTA and get an inspector to decide then take it to court if its your favour. It will only take a day ot of life and if you innocent you should do OK.

As for the Uni finances thing - no matter how much money you earn - if you have any spare you dont have enough vices

Your putting words into my mouth....

There are other issues here other then just tyres...

Rego issues and licensing issues. Not hard to sort out, and im sure it would cost a great deal either.

I have learned in the past that a ticket for a bald tyre is a cheap ticket.
I have had a lot of tickets for tyres when I was young, between 18 and 25 I would have had 12 ticket for bald tyres (I was driving my own beer truck as well as Toranas and Minis). Cops pull you up to have a look around and when they can't find anything they write you up for a tyre. It sucks but thats the way it works. He has to pay his wages somehow.

One time the cop walked around the truck about ten times looking at eveything, he asked me what was leaking on the ground, I told him it was beer out of a leaking keg (It was diesel from a crack in the fuel tank) he said "Oh, that must be what I can hear hissing" (it was a leak in the air suspension) So he wrote me a ticket for a bald tyre when they were all OK. I got off cheap. 8)
