why not do without using the indicators as reversing lights and get a pair of these

Because they'll fail RWC for being too bright.

Mine passed roadworthy no worries, they are sold as fog lights and as such would be legally allowed to be turned on with the headlights if on the front so I don't see how they could be illegal as reversing lights.
I don't believe there is an ADR specifying a brightness limit for reversing lights and I would personally like to see as much behind me as possible

If a 50W halogen exceeds 700cd light output, it's illegal.

So how do they get away with fog lights? How bright are they in cd?
In my opinion since the reversing lights are mounted lower down than most fog lights, they should not be dazzling to any vehicles behind and serve as an adequate warning to any persons behind me.

Less than 700 ;)

Fog lights are the same wattage as brake lights, which are typically 21W tungsten filament. A 50W halogen is going to be a hell of a lot brighter, but I don't know how they measure in cd..

Anyway, enough hijack ;) Congrats on getting Henry fixed, Louis! Look forward to seeing him on Sunday 8)

Yep sorry for the Hijack, thanks for the info sgc, It would be quite interesting to see a policeman attempting to work out the candela measurement of the lights by the side of the road

You can rig up the indicators to be also reversing lights by putting blocking diodes in the supply wires to stop the current going back down the wires.
