Trimmed up nicely with a handbrake boot, and nobody has to know it's there

Try and get parts...
Main bearings- all NLA except that Jerry (the guy who races the black one) has had stocks of -.010" made now.
Big end bearings- NLA, have to use Mini ones and face width in a lathe.
Pistons??? Don't ask.....

mmm, Myth 8)

The engine in the Imp is not a Coventry Climax. It was was developed from a Climax engine and the prototypes had Climax engines but the production Imp engines have nothing in common with a Climax engine.

Original design was based on the C/C 750cc firepump engine.
All the Imps we got here were 875cc, the GTs had twin Stromberg CD carbs, hotter cam, bigger valves and extractors. And an oil cooler. Good for 55HP.
It's not real hard to bore the crap out of the block and put wet sleeves in to get 998cc.
I think one of Jerry's motors gave ~108HP at the crank on the engine dyno.

That explains the yarn that Rootes "detuned the engine" for more sedate motoring, but could never restore it's tuning potential for the racers. Potential that never existed

Well, the engine in a 1071 Cooper S was developed FROM John Cooper's F/J engine, according to folklore. But no way it's the same.

Just another myth.
The first FJ engines were 994cc and the last ones were 1095cc. The bore doesen't match a Mini but the stroke is the same as the 998.

John Cooper had nothing to do with the FJ engines (he didn't even own the company  ) The engines were done by the BMC engine division, they had nothing to do with Coopers.

About the only thing from the Junior that would have been used in the Cooper S would be the cam. (and it would have been a different grind)
