We are not saying throw any old diff housing on and bolt it up. You may be lucky first up or you may have to try a few.

Sure they were lined bored originally but even so they would have been done on a jig which would have them all pretty close. I've done the process twice - one perfect that it was like it was line bored the other needed the dowels removed and it was fine. With a 40 year old car you can't afford to be too pedantic.

I know what you are saying!
I'm just saying that when its mine I would rather put in the extra effort,
I guess I am pedantic when it comes to my cars.
Your way is fine just not for a gearbox i'm building.

I agree Dave, the end result comes down to the effort put in, once you start accepting a bit less here, then it's a bit less there, before you know it you have a second rate car.
