Hahahahaha, sorry that made me laugh... Ill take on anyones N/A big bore except Griegs in my pissy little 1132 and reckon I would give em more than they bargained for.

apples and oranges, if you got boost on your smallblock, so does the bigblock

Point is Bens small block turbo is making more than many of the big block turbo's
Yeah, 1275 turbo will make more power if built to, but the smallbores are cheaper to fix. Find me a Small J 1275 crank for $20 like an 1100 or 998 crank can be found.

And your point is still wrong even without turbo's. My N/A 1132 (GR built) still screamed.
As said, GR's 998 will roast most of the big blocks anyday...

game over.

Edited cause I came to my senses... no point...

Blake, Josh is right. Everyone has an opinion, GR can build you what you need within your budget.
Dont import a motor, there are plenty here to build and power will be there. All really depends exactly how you want the motor to behave.

I can't believe you replied to him either. :) With all the talk of "substitute for cubes" and "Bigblocks are nicer", Spaceboy may be better off buying a commodore.

Speaking of that, if I want to go really fast in something with big cubes I go and jump in the 6.0L V8 and go and scare myself - some people on here know what a big block is, and it's not a big bore A series :P

C'mon kids, more than one way to skin a cat. Just some are more fun, thats all....

I'd love to build a small block turbo. I'd keep it 998. Gimme revs! :D

If you want something thats "nice" to drive, go a 1275, warm cam, tickle the head, add SU (or weber if you like the sound) nice exhaust system and just drive it on the torque. Add electronic ignition, keep the cooling system up to scratch and enjoy it. Any engine builder should be able to give you reliable horsepower without too many headaches.

If you build 'em hot, it not only costs money when it breaks, it takes time.

believe it or not, before i worote my reply I actually read Blakes question, his stated requirements and his post saying he had 1098 and 998 parts galore. hence suggesting he talk to Graham.

everyone else seems to have seen the $$$ and spewed forth their own wet dreams.

Blake, give Graham a call and your money will be wisely spent. I hope you like tea to aid the digestion of your bikkies

Hey Guys,

I had a chat to Graham and he reckons i should use a 1275cc with the RE13 cam, weber, good set of extractors, inlet manifold, and he said i could make 100+bhp hopfully. He also said i could use my gearbox off my 1100cc with a few tweaks to make it suitable for the 1275cc. So i think this mite be the way i go.
His reason for going this is that i can get some good torque/power without revving the crap out of it.

But yeh so thats what has been suggested.

Blake

That's spot on...It's taking quiet a few years to purchase good reliable parts from here,UK and America(when the exchange rate is good). Then the satisfaction of driving a well set-up Mini can only be experienced by the feeling in your pants

Yeh he was great, he was very helpful.

I'll start a build thread when i start getting into it. Ive started to pull out the 1100cc and started to tidy up the interior a little bit, but the car when i got it was in pretty good nick except for the boot lid which was replaced when some d-head in a commodore decided to lose control of his car while doing donuts in a carpark and run into the back of the mini. But yeh the bodywork needs a little bit of panel beating around the boot lid

I know GR won't rip you off, and you'll get excellent value for money

BUT I'd keep a grand aside for when it's in the car and running, so that you've got some spare cash for getting it tuned and other niggles sorted out - cos you know there will be

(yes, even though GR will tune it on his engine dyno)
