If you look under the Driver side door towards the centre you will see the exhaust then a Square section which should be silver in colour but possible blackish in oil
as they do. But if you see this box section its a remote.
I did what you said and yes I have a remote
...tricky though how you said it should be silver in colour or black with oil lol mine is painted red
