I had a look at the previous cars this seller had listed.
They were genuine.
The contact, Tony, says the seller is loaded and has collected hundreds of cars over the years.
Definatley worth the trip to view.

In my opinion subject to the numbers being checked the 997 cooper appears to be a genuine cooper the wind up window doors have been fitted at some stage, you can tell that this is the case by looking at the striker catch on the body there are a few items that are not original, like the distributor, heater tap, brake master cylinder, etc there are a few other items that would require checking in my opinion. If anyone feels I could be a help to them please call me on 02 46481233 (I have only made comments on the 997 cooper ))
Regards
John

If you are thinking about buying the 'S', the owner has just added this:

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS VEHCILE HAS HYDROLASTIC SUSPENSION AND IT DOES NEED TO BE RECHARGED WITH HYDROLASTIC GAS. WE ARE NOT AWARE OF ANY PROBLEM WITH THE HYDROLASTIC MECHNICALS BUT IT HAS LOST GAS OVER THE THREE YEARS THAT IT HAS BEEN PARKED. PLEASE CHECK IT OUT FOR YOURSELF.

:?

...so much for floating on fluid!

Tricky

It's not uncommon, people get this kind of thing mixed up all the time because of other marques using other names for similar gas/fluid setups.
It kind of confirms it more.
I was hoping to get the s for a carton of piss, but I think it will go for a little more now.

So who is the clued up expert on the 997 then? Very interested to see if its the real deal. I see the Q/A section the previous owner has written in.

Hi, I owned this car about 5 years ago!! In Vic. It was in alot better condition then than it is now.... what happened to it? We repainted the roof/bonnet/bottom half drivers door. Also put the cooper stickers on it. It was a real original car.

Hi Nice to hear from you ... car has just been parked since we bought it ... photos don't do justice.

Of course I need more, a valuable one would be a good investment  . I may have to watch these closely

Can someone pleas trawl through the listings and verify if they are genuine articles please.

The details of the Coopers are a lot simpler than the S. There were fewer changes that were needed between the standard car and the Cooper body. It will however have the boot board brackets (wider spaced for the single tank bootboard), There should be the under floor SU breather and nipple, normal apron support (no oil cooler on a cooper).
Interior wise, the speedo is 100mph mounted in the early 4-screw binnacle with oil and temperature gauges, westminster carpet (although long rotted by now usually), the trim was as seen on the wind up window car although sliding windows were standard. Windups were considered a smart upgrade when they came available (if you've ever survived a summer in a sliding window car you'll know why..). Hoodlining should be two piece and the interior light mounted in the center. Remote gearchange, not sure if the magic wand hole was patched or welded or not there at all on mine...

Exterior trim was standard mini 10 x 3.5j wheels with Cooper stainless wheel trims, bumpers with over riders and corner bars (Stainless or chrome?? I think chrome right??) Stainless trims around door uppers on sliding windows held on by numerous cup shaped rivets. Three piece stainless trims along the length of the wheel arches and sill, no flares.
Seven inch fade-o-matic disks.

Cooper 997/998 engine as above, EDIT: 4 speed 3 synchro gearbox, twin SUs, 202 head for 997, 295 for 998, no fuel pump aperture in block (except for a few early ones) Standard electricals except key start (a first) so had a push button solenoid (handy for doing the tappets that one). Badges of course and a bootlid lining same as S in leatherboard.

Two tone paint mostly but not always.

YKA as a prefix on the id plate (make sure it's not the british repro) and matching body stamp(s) complete the picture.

I think there's more but I'm spent.
