well chin up - it's happened to most of us somewhere along the line, life goes on and usually it works out for the best, even if it hurts along the way

Joe, so sorry to hear this. for one, drunk drivers are my pet hate, and secondly, My mini was stolen and smashed (years ago - obviously, I got it back) so I do know how heartbreaking it is to see something you love so much in such a state. I hope it works out the best way it can, and believe in Karma - I do....
He will get whats coming to him maybe cirrhosis of the liver and a long slow agonizing death.....

Oh Jesus, Joe, that's ****ing awful. I'm really glad you're OK, a second either way and you could have been a real mess. As much as people will tell you it's just a car, I know it's more than that, a part of you. I really hope the **** who hit you gets what's coming, the cops need to throw the book.

There's lots of people hereabouts who've been here and done it already (as above).. good advice, I really hope it works out for you.

If they write it off as in insurance write off (not structural write off) you might consider buying the wreck and repairing it, as stated by others you might be able to get the repairs done a lot cheaper than an insurance company.

Gee that's tough luck. Sorry to hear about it.

I was just thinking, keep Tiny at home until you've thought everything through. You don't want things getting nicked whilst he's sitting in a holding yard waiting to be assessed.

Also, if you make a claim, then the insurance company gets the car (usually).

So, I wonder if you might be better off, not going down that road and just suing the arse off this bloke for the total cost of reinstating the car and of course personal injury. It'd be worth more than the sum insured, although you'd have to foot the bill, I reckon it might be worth looking into.

Plus there's the added satisfaction of really sticking it into this guy - what a #@!$wit.

If you want to chase the guy for damages (and I'm all for the idea!) check first to make sure he can pay.

I'd be leaving that fight to your insurance company if I were you, that's exactly what you pay them for.

tiny looks pretty nice, I suspect you were under insured, could be worth buying the wreck even if the shell is stuffed and useing the drivetrain and interior in a reshell. One way or another don't waste all your good work!

thanks everyone for the support. everything valuable has been taken out of the car and a claim was already done by my parents that nite. the car was under insured thanks to nrma, i would so love to sue the guy for damages but it will cost me more and then the worry of him actually paying up could take forever.

It sucks to get a car written off, especially by a drunk driver...
If you get nothing else, at least by back the carbies, there's a few grand just there!!
