I can understand the issues with having them on, and law is law I guess, so will turn them off.
I'll now be interested to see how I'm dealt with by other traffic.
In the last four months since I fitted the lights, I've had far less people doing risky manouvres in front of me, making me feel a little more at ease on the roads.

Nevertheless, after reading all the stuff on lights on the vicroads site and ADR requirements (Note I've read up on VICTORIA ONLY), there is a simple solution to what I want to achieve.

This topic so far has covered DRIVING and FOG lights. Not DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS.
Daytime running lights (aka DLRs) may be on during the day, in clear weather.

Therefore, by swapping the 35w globes in my lights for 20w globes, do they become DLRs?
I'll do a little more reading, but I think that'll suffice.

Daytime running lights are for wankers.
Just turn your headlights on.

But I forget about my normal lights and the battery will go flat. The DRLs are rigged in so only on with the engine.

Rig your headlights to a buzzer when the key is off. (just like most jap cars) you can get a kit from Jaycar or Dick Smith.

Why not wire your headlights that way too? Key on, headlights on. Key off, headlights off. Problem solved. If you need the headlights when the car's not running, turn on the key.
