hello everyone,

this issue has been rectified. it turns out the bearing that was fit up was actually supplied as a defect. after removing the old bearings from the left front wheel assembly, upon inspection the inner and outer races had been assembled 180 degrees out, and the chamfered edge on the outer race was not facing in the right direction. this lead to movement of the actual bearing inside the wheel hub housing, which caused this movement of the wheel.

it was not an issue of an inner spacer being absent, it was not an issue of the flange not hammering all the way home onto the CV spline, it was not a CV joint issue, it was not an outer bearing spacer issue.

the bearing was replaced by the same manufacturer's bearing (with a correctly assembled outer race) and now it is completely fine, no wheel movement at all, and no grinding noise as the car moves along.

thank you for all those that offered their help.

cheers
