well out of our 9, strangley enough our stocky 850 is the fastest. It takes the longest to get to top speed, but being the lightest and in best shape has an overall top speed higher than the rest. Doesn't really make much differnce to us as they all do the 110km highest speed limit. But hey, each to their own. As long as your happy driving your mini, all the more horsepower to ya!

The fastest A-series I had was in the boot of an XF Falcon. It went 185kph.

Was it EFI?
The commodores and falcons used to have an overspeed setting at 187km/h.
A friend used to go around disabling it on the ECU for the series production racers of the day. That might have been later than the XF's though?

It was a carby XF. I did get it up to 195kph but it didn't have an A-series in the boot at the time.

When I was driving FIVs at Bathurst the Auto EL XR6 had a speed limiter at about 185kph and the Manual AU XR6 didn't have a limiter (well I never found it!) The Auto was a bugger, as you were just turning into the Caltex Chase with the foot flat the limiter would cut in! It would get a bit hairy.
The Manual AU was much quicker overall and it would turn into the chase at about 220kph and ride very nicely doing it.

I was just thinking, were the military Mokes ever transported by plane?

Chucking a Moke in the back or a Caribou would surely be faster than just about every road Mini/Moke out there.

A moke would be faster when it was not an a Caribou. I have seen a Caribou flying backwards in a headwind.

Alright then, Hercules? But seriously, the question still stands because the answer may once and for all put an end to the seemingly enternal question of what is the fastest A-series.
