2. in some specifications, they quote 62hp for 35 year old cooper s (flywheel?),
while Mrcooms ten year old 1275 puts out 45hp at the wheels

where do we lose the power to?

65 was at the the Flywheel and we were at the wheels

The power is lost thru the transmission.

The fact that the mini gearbox is under the motor (requiring 180 degree transfer gears) makes it lose more power than a regular gearbox setup (eg: honda vtec, where the gearbox is an extension of the crankshaft).

Try building a row of gears out of Lego (if you have access to any). If one end is turned by hand, you will find the handle is harder to turn when you add more slave gears (basically they are like transfer gears). This relates to the mini's gearbox.

3. doc, whats wrong with Mini-ha-ha?

I gave him too many revs once too often around Wakefield Pk, and cracked the skirt on #4 piston.
These pistons are forged race ones, about 25+ years old..
Got me home... bores still look OK.

Graham Russell is boring my 1275 auto block out to 1360 now, so I'll shove that in there in a week or two, with my S crank & rods. With a few hours more head work, and another (improved) RE-13 cam... :P

Thanks for organising the day Brad, it was good to put some faces to names. I wasn't game to run my mini but maybe at the next one.
I have a vid of the winning run on the dyno if someone can host it (11meg). I can email it to you.
Thanks again and it was great to meet all you mini enthusiasts.

Had a good dayout. Wasn't going to run on the dyno but glad I did. Mini lost brakes on the way out to Lower Portland. Had to trailer it home on Sunday.

Need a couple more tweaks to stay ahead of the turbo's.

the "Little" Turbo has your 73.6 firmly in his sights..... :D

Next on the menu is a slightly larger hairdryer, some nice mandrel-bent intake piping and if i cant fit an intercooler, then some water/methanol injection (Just to keep the temps down, i swear!)

Mine felt sweet on the way home, the little "tweaks" in the carpark that added that 5hp really made a solid "real-world" difference.... Nice....

Cathc you all again soon.... 11 months, and 29 days to go ........

J

James, you must be over the moon! I reckon that means about 90 at the crank easy, that's going some for a 998..... :D

Well done! 8)
