dont get me wrong i love minis as much as the next poster. just sounding like with all the other problems and the fact they DID wipe floor with others that it wasnt a satisfactory win....but i dont want to be digging myself into any more of a hole, so ill shut up :P

Man I was there, it WAS an awesome win. They wiped the field. :P
It wasn't until 1967 that anybody entered a V8 with disc brakes, that had any chance.

If the 3.8l Mk2s were allowed to run the results would have been different in a lot of years

The rules for Bathurst limited the race to cars that were made in Australia and made in a certain quantity. There were cars that could have beaten the Mini but were not made in Australia or not made in the required number during the time.

But although the Cooper S was a homologation special it was made for a long period and in a lot greater number than the required minimum.

The Valiants that finished 10th and 11th were stock production models and were not a special hot up edition for the race. So that says something for the Valiants.

Mozza...you make it sound like Cooper S was built to win Bathurst, when it was just a development of the Cooper and a continuing UK dev program to win circuit and rally races.

Right car at the right time!

The Aussie Cooper S was built with one intention. It achieved that goal in 1966 at Bathurst.
Look at the production figures and you will clearly see when the cars were made and how many were made in a batch.

We could do with a little more of that auto production ethos, instead of the framed up taxi races that go on at the moment.

Well we had a 12 hour race at Bathurst recently, for real cars you can (maybe) buy.
Apart from seeing the results up on the Bathurst 12 hour website, I have heard squat. Channel 7 has the `TVrights', but who knows if anybody bothered to go with a camera, never mind put it on the telly.
There's no $$$$$$$$ or kickbacks in it. :x

There is no such thing as production car racing.
It always ends up with a bunch of limited production specials running around the track and CAMS opening up the rules due to the fact that they can't stop the rampant cheating.

If I remember correctly the VC Valiant was built from 66-7 it had a 225 ci slant 6 with a 3 speed column shift manual or 3 speed auto.

The VC also had the option of a 273 ci V8 however this was only available on the top spec 'Regal' which was auto only.

I think that the auto V8 versions were raced.

I am fairly sure that the 67 V8 Regal had disc brakes but am unsure about the 66 model.

The Cooper S handled better stopped quicker and i think accelerated faster than the V8 Valiant.

The VC V8 was the 66 version of a current model Statesman V8 ie; big comfortable and an effortless self-shifting cruiser, not a track warrior however in 66 at Bathurst the VC was the second fastest make entered.

To fill the first 9 places at Bathurst was an amazing result
