Hi there,

When your done polishing your knob, would you mind givin' mine some attention?

Good on you, about 6 months ago I shelled out similar cash for a genuine embosed (not a cheap sticker) Aussie GT boot badge.

You are 100% right. You can't compare the cost of materials required to manufacture something to the value that it holds to the purchaser. If you are passionate enough about something, why the hell not.

Its the ones you let pass you by that hurt the most, not because of what they might one day be worth to someone else but because of what they are worth to you.

Hold that knob, and never let it go.

I'd sit on it for a while. You never know how far up it might go ;)

it was YOU!! That was my point exactly. I missed out on that very boot badge and have kicked myself for it since. Good win mate! I hope you've put it to good use!

Yeah I have. I have a Camino Gold Gt and my dad has a Gambier Terqoise (sorry about the spelling!) one. His is already running and I'm still gathering all the parts I need for a 100% factory resto. I have inherited mine from my uncle who left it in the weather for 25+ years :?. I still have to collect it but I already have nearly everything I need. Thanks and good luck with yours

Ok,,, so im just a bit be-mused about the price of the knob, i`m not calling anyone names, i didn`t mean to start an argument with this thread , & i`m certainly not bagging anyone for buying it, ,, jokes are just jokes & no-one needs to defend themselves , nor do they need to justify themselves to me about buying these sorts of things, i`m a firm beliver in if you want it & you want it now, then you pay whatever you reckon & whatever you can to get the thing,,, ive been in this game a long time & have witnessed some wild & weired prices for all sorts of things over the years... i was just a bit shocked at the price the knob went for

the "S" i think went for the right price actually

But now it starts me thinking what anyone would pay for a genuine GT boot badge???

I have one here off my old GT & was just keeping it for, well "keeps-sake",,,

what`s it worth then??????

& what are some other wicked porices paid for what other "Rare" stuff that any of you have paid???

purely In the hope to sort some sort of "Std issue" market value for these sorts of items

g'day matt. I don't think I accused you of calling anyone names or anything else ... you started the thread and expressed some much warranted shock and that's all .... but that's all a few others needed to take some cheap shots.

your badge is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. Obviously a description of its condition or a pic would go a long way to coming up with a value ... but if you ask others here what the "honest" value is, get their "apraisal" and I'll double that and happily pay you, after all, it's just a piece of metal with some writing on it right? Not direct at you BTW ......

Or you could list it on eBay and see what happens. One thing I can say is that after the gear knob, my funds are totally sapped and there's no way I'll be bidding for it :( If I was cashed up I'd pay plenty for a really good one.

agree, jokes are jokes, and sometimes they're even funny. but if someone wants to call me a spanner, a tool a knob or whatever, without knowing ANYTHING about me, I think I'm entitled to have my say???

I know virtually nothing about the S and was only using it as an example about this ridiculous argumant about somethings "honest" or "true" value and some peoples compulsion to judge others in these situations.

I paid $500 for a +20" 1200 prefix bare block for my GT - this is the only 1200 prefix block I've seen come up since I've been on the hunt.

I'd pay "good money" for a decent, genuine front GT badge.

GT Center Caps would also pull good money - probably at least $100 for a set in good nik. Even a good set of standard clubman S center caps would fetch a tidy sum imo.

Rims, as you know, are worth a bit too.

Basket weave interior? name your price basically.

6,500 redline tacho - heaps. Seen complete instrument clusters sell for well over $300

but most of these items tend to come up more frequently than the knobs or the boot badges because they are SO specific to the aussie GT - the other items were also available on a variety of other Leyland/BMC cars which makes them more readily available.

I am one of the nobs that bid over $300.00. Considering that it is the original only part that I am missing, I would have bid a fair bit more only I missed the ending. You pay $1200.00 for a set of reco seatbelts for an XU1. I like original cars but are not padanic on total originality, but a gearstick knob on a GT is one of the signature differences from the base model. I too love a bargain and have had my share of barnfinds, but when you need a rare part you pay the coin.
Talking about rare parts I have a shed full and are slowing parting with them & can't work out prices as some rare items I bought fifteen years ago are now fetching less money.
Was trying to sell a genuine NOS VH44 brake booster for $400.00, I remember 10 years ago at one of the mini dealers they were $500.00 for a reco unit and you had to give them your used unit.
At the end of the day if someone wants it they will pay for it.
Stay Cool.

The Falcon XYGTHO guys must have gone through this process of price versus value as well once upon a time...it would have been the mid 80's I would have guessed.

They might have bleated at the time, but it didn't stop anything...

I don't mind at all, and yes that's my badge. You probably saw the storm that erupted on GT spot after the auction! I was just keeping my mouth shut and laughing to myself. The part number is HYB4618, the other one i have has the same number. The three front badges I have are all HYB3805.

Regards
Alex
