Something like this would be rather cool though. :)

But then you still have the wheel arches as big holes there.

Hmmm... You could close them though. And lower them into the body. And add some spoilers. Each side. And on the rear. And make the body all flat & streamlined. And add an inline engine to allow a narrower frontal area. And add a supercharger. And...

:P

The Swiss Mini Racing Team (which is now 'banned' by new regulations  ) used similar setups wiht succes on the Nürburgring 24h endurance race (rear diffusor & 'flat' floor).

you can reduce the form drag by careful application of that wonderproduct - duct tape.

or you can deseam it - that might be good for 1mph. or just knock them flat with a hammer.

replace handles with clubbie doorhandles, delete external mirrors, wipers, fuel tank inlet, basically anything that sticks up/out.

cheesecutter tyres will reduce frontal area.

cheers
michael

Now THAT'S less than subtle.

But good to see it works

Well I guess it's a tad more subtle than this one:

The lower your car to the ground, the less air goes under it, which develops disturbance.

Enclose your wheelarches closer to the wheels. Fit skinny wheels and tyres. Pump em up to 40psi. Flatten the underbody. Deseam it.
Square-up the rear corners of the bodywork. Front air dam right down to the ground. Lower sills to the same height. Block off your grille intakes.

It all works.

7 and 8 port heads are good cos they remove air from the front and put it at the rear, creating a pressure imbalance that wants to move the car forwards, the more air your engine moves the faster you go

Large diam pipes from front to rear so instead of your car going through the air, the air goes through your car

Finally, really hot running lights, they heat up the air in front making it less dense and easier for the car to go through

Back to the original question: Z-Cars quote the Monte Carlo as having a top speed of 153mph!
