Honestly, I think the guy has some right to be pissed off.

Whilst the work was obviously not to a high standard, did you ever discuss this with him? Give him a chance to fix the problem?

Most mechanics in my experience are more than happy to rectify the problem given the opportunity. Its not too hard to work out for those people in the community who the mechanic was, and by posting this up before speaking to him about it is probably not the best way to get good results.

Many years ago a boss of mine in the corporate world told me that when ever you write anything consder it to be a public document.

Dont assume a private document will remain private.

I also agree with Ryan here in that the first the mechanic would have known about your dissatifaction would have been word of mouth buy someone who had read your post.

It would have made me angry as well as there was no right of reply. No compromise and all parties were easily identified.

It doesn't change the quality of workmanship and I make no comment on that.

like I said, i wasan't suprised he was pissed off.. I wasan't expecting it to be hunky dory...

And yes as I as said in earlier posts, I called the workshop a day after I had all the issues asking that I wanted them fixed or something done about it, this was b4 i posted this up, and the original owner wasan't there, so I was promised a call in the next few days... from him, and I heard nothing for 2 weeks... So i could see he wasan't in the happy moods, so just turned up there to get my stuff, b4 more things went missing..

Have you thought about taking it back and asking him to repair the dodgy work at his cost?
8)

..

No I am not going to go back there to give him the work to fix, as its obvious he doesent know what he is doing, this new fella whos taken over thinks he knows everything about mini's becuase his worked on other old cars, and can't be told otherwise. I would just be wasting my time argueing with him, in how we believe a mini should be running. Plus from previous experiences I have found that when i do get the person to redo their job, they dont look after the possesion as much as they should. Had experiences where the paint has been chiped, from careless one too many times etc. So I'm not about to make the mistake again. I'm just going to have to wear it for now. BUT I WILL NEVA BE GOING BACK THERE AGAIN, and I'll be telling the fella that. I wont be naming the bussiness, cos i kno its not allowed, but there are a few on this forum who knows who exactly I am talking about.

My previous post was based on this. It sounds like you never considered letting them correct their mistakes.

fair enough. I had called them prior to writing that to discuss the work, and they were not the remotely slightest interested in the problems, and given the fact they never called back as promised, I got more pissed, and wasant going to give them the chance, even though they didn't even seem likely to want to fix it. No concern to me now though, I've got other people I can relay on if need be.

Oh and the keys, well yes, I just had to change the igition barrels over, to ensure the keys that had were of no use..
