I agree, I know NAV isn't the best car on the raod as far as mini's go. but it's there because of repair work i've performed on the car.

I had to rebuild the bottom end on NAV's 998 due to the bearings failing. and I had to get a new crank because it was already way undersize. As you could imagine I was pretty gutted. I didn't have any money at the time. But I just parked him in the garage and at a mates place while I moved and when I got the money together another mate of mine gave me a perfect crank (lucky I know but people do stranger things) and got his engine builder mate to source some good bearings as well for me.

So what everyone is saying here don't give up. Just be a little patient and things will fall into place eventually. Lots of people here with alot of knowledge from different professions such as panel beaters and mechanics. Don't be afraid to ask for help. There is always someone here who can help in some way

I know its an old post but I was looking up suspension help KEK. Any ways I just wanted to add my 2c.

I recently bought a Mini. I have wanted one for 30 yrs. I sold my 2005 Susuki Liana (of which mind you I actually loved) to buy my Mini. This decision is one I haven't regretted since. Every car made from about 1990 - now is all the same, plastic pre-fab and BORING. My little girl has class, character and style. It is not only rare but it is what I have always wanted.

A real dream come true. Don't give up on your dreams just to please those around you.

Any ways back to looking for suspension information :P

I'm feeling a bit glum today. It seems everyone thinks its a bad idea to keep the mini. I called a friend yesterday to see who he recommends for a mechanic and he told me he doesn't see what I see in the mini, it's a rough tin can and his advice is its not worth spending money on a car worth $50. He says he knows many better cars that are as much fun. My parents tell me to sell it and get a modern car. I went to the mechanic and he tells me while we are driving around the block that it's an f*cking old car, it's going to make some noises and generally doesn't look like he wants to deal with it. From experience I know that means I'm going to pay a lot. :(

It's days like these, that I just don't have the energy to argue back... that it's small, it's different, it's fun, sounds brilliant, we've gone so many places, had so much fun, broke down so many times, worked so many hours on it, wasted so much money. Why? Maybe I should just give up and get a toyota. I hate them so much. Why is it so hard for me to be "normal"? It's so hard to let go...

hg.

Hi,
I have very good friends; they are 3 brothers and they do have a mechanic shop. What ever I learned about fixing cars I did learn from them.
But each time I visit them to say hi, one of them keep saying what are you doing with this p.. of s..... it is too small, etc... I keep saying to him mine is a classic not like a p.. of s.... like the one you driving(3 years old Volvo) and it is a okey size for me. and I add: but you right I would not buy small car if I was like your size this car for normal size people. That usually shuts him up.
Moral of the story some people are morons they will hang s.. on your car for no logical reason so you have to deal with them in a way they would understand.
What ever car you have do not forget Beauty is in the eye of the beholder

I have been driving for 10 years now and have only ever owned minis, my first was a 78 van and now I have a 76 mini s, I have no intentions of owning any other cars as yet, when I first got the van I knew nothing of repairing cars but due to a lack of a decent mechanic and funds I taught myself everyhing I need to know, I can now repair anything on my mini (except body work), minis are also extremely cheap to buy parts for compared to most other cars.

Do not sell it, it is worth more than any monetary value placed upon it.

for years and years everyone always told me to get rid of my minis. Ive been through five now, and currenty own the fifth and now a sixth.

What people dont get is, its not a depreciating value. It stays around the same value, and i enjoy working on it day in day out. Parts cost about the same and they a bloody fun to drive.

Ive just recently done over 15000 kms of the outback, over 3000kms of dirt and 4x4 tracks and including the oodnadatta.

point is

the same people that told me to sell it, said i was wasting my time, are the same people that cant believe that car has done what it has, have utmost respect for what i have done.

i put it down to jealousy, they want one, dont know how to fix one, their wifes wont let them have one, they dont understand them.

what other car gets looked at so much. its a chic magnet, its a old man in the servo talking magnet, its an i used to own one magnet and even the cops pull you over just for a look.

dont listen to your mates. bottom line. do what makes you happy.

I think someone needs to get out and mingle with more mini nuts. I mean that, it's important to hang around others that love minis and not just general public who don't understand.

If you didn't live so far away you should come to all the MCC and Ausmini outings.

Don't sell her! Hell if you didn't live so far away I'd pop over and give you a hiding with my braker bar before fixind the car for you myself!!

As David Rosenthall said earlier none of us, and I mean NONE of us were born with mechanical knowledge, we all started off with a can of WD40 and an adjustable spanner at one stage or another. Cheer up! she'll be right.

PS. SHe's worth more than $50 in any state I can assure you!!!

People will always have shots at you for having a old car and wasting money on it but no one that has owned a mini could say they're not worth the effort..

It's amazing how depressed and how happy these cars can make you..

There are times when you have been working for hours and spend hundreds and it still won't work but there are also those times when you are driving along laughing out loud surrounded by jaw astonished pedestrians!
