Ive always wondered what top speed I hit on my little private straight... My car does 3800rpm at 60mph. But I can get it to about 6600 rpm in 4th till I run out of road.

you have a 3.44:1 diff ratio, and on 165/60/12 tyres you should be doing 62mph at 3800rpm, and 108mph (180kph) at 6600rpm

Wow how did you figure my diff ratio out??? Thats correct by the way!

But my tyres are actually 165/55/R12. How does that effect things?

that's the only diff ratio that gives 60mph at around 3800rpm - 165/55/12's give exactly the same rolling diameter as 165/70/10's - 174kph, 104mph.

Oh that sux... Thats slower then before.... Im gunna have to find a longer stretch of road and see what happens when I hit 7000rpm...!

110.5mph. Don't need to know diff ratios... 60mph / 3800rpm = 0.015789 mph/rpm. 0.015789 mph/rpm * 6600rpm=104mph.

It's nice to see the big questions being asked on Ausmini again. :P

Back in 1973/74 a mini sports sedan driven by Lyn Brown ( a male ) was clocked at 126 mph down con rod straight at a Easter meeting at Bathurst.

I have a feeling that is still the fastest recorded speed for a mini.

About 20 mph slower than what Paul would claim now.

I remember being at a Drivers' Briefing years ago for a Group N support race at the October Bathurst meeting when one of the Mustang drivers asked if the drivers of the small vehicles could keep to the left side of the track down Conrod to make it easier and safer for the bigger. faster cars to pass.
Some bright spark Mini driver responded immediately that he would oblige as soon as the big cars got out of the way across the top of the mountain.
Seriously though, there is quite a speed differential between the Bricks and the bigger cars, and when a V8 goes screaming past maybe 30 or 40 mph faster, the buffeting is enough to move a Mini sideways - and at 8000rpm in top that can be quite exciting.
