As Doc said, 40819H was used on the Mark 1 Cooper S (and also the MG Midget Mk III). I have no data on the K model but it's mentioned on a couple of UK forums. I haven't seen or heard of this dizzy being used on SPO41 cars so I'd presume it was swapped with the original on excops car at some stage. Of course there's no way of knowing for sure other than continuing to collect data from those who have evidence one way or the other.

Until there's proof to the contrary I'll stick with what the factory specifications for Police SPO tell me and what I've observed on genuine cars, but always keen to hear what others have to say so a considered view can be formed.

I have a Lucas UK Listing on every distributor, by body number from 40033A, sequentually through to 41398A, however, while it does give all the dissy data, it doesn't say what they were fitted to. It does not list a 40819K at all (not to say they didn't do one), only 40819A, 40819B, 40819F and 40819H (the latter 3 being A/C rotation).

Generally, those ending with the letter A were Clockwise Rotation, while those with a B were Anti-clockwise. They did use other letters too, for different features, usually an 'alteration' (in Lucas's words) version of the basic A or B types.

The Cooper S that was fitted with AEG163 Head and theAEG148 Cam was fitted with dissy 40819B.

The Cooper S that was fitted with the 12G940 Head and the AEG510 Cam was fitted with dissy 40819H or the Ozzy AYG0175

The UK MKIII Cooper S was fitted with yet another, a 41033B.......

I had my 62 Cooper at Ted The Tooner in Brookvale for a dyno tune in the early 70's and was told that the Hornsby cops previously had some Minis (MkII S I think) modified to almost full race spec for use on the old Pacific Highway. He used to tune them. It was a startegy to keep up with the hoons in Falcon GT's and XU1's which were no match for a hot mini on the windy stuff. The engines ran big cams and big clearances and needed rebuilding every 3-4000 miles.

I thought it might interest some.

Pete

I just found yet another, it's UK Dissy (25D4) but fitted to Ozzy built Cooper S, supposedly as an alternative, from the introduction of the 9FXEY Engines, Body No. 40955 (although the actual stamping would have been 40955B), which while have the same centrifigal advance as the 40819H, has vacuum advance. This came from an Ozzy Factory Publication. WTF?

The Haynes manual quotes both 40819 and 41033 for the MKIII. These two are very slightly different in their curves, but the difference is so small, it's almost academic.

Steve, where did your list come from?

I'd also like to know the source of your data, Steve. My information came from the Lucas Australia parts books - AV1, AV2 and AV3.

There's some related distributor information here:

That's exactly what we were looking for AJ. It shows the AYG272 actually exists and links the Lucas part number to it. What car was it fitted to?

Here's a AYG0272 sent to me by a shy ausmini member. Many thanks to the one that provided
