Make sure you read the sticker and observe. Use only 12v 60/55 Watt H4 Bulbs unless you want to change the shape and appearence of the Reflector ! I think I still have a few sets of these Angel eye headlights left. They sell for $90. a pair bulbs included. Some people did not like the fact that they have flat glass which on tha last batch I got was plastic due to Law change regarding Glass on front of Cars.

I must say I'm somewhat surprised to read this from a supposedly respected auto electrician! Hence why I do all my own electrical work on my cars rather than leave it to someone who is meant to do a high standard of work but often cut corners (even when paying top dollar)!

Please insulate with heatshrink at the joins!!!

Who's to say he doesn't in his professional work. Just about everyone has electrial tape on hand. Not alot of people have heashrink tube of the right size with a heat gun handy though. So it's better to have something rather than nothing

Show me the heatshrink on an original Mini.
There is about 30 yards of tape but no heatshrink.

Electrical tape is used to wrap the loom, but not insulate.

I like heatshrink. I like it a lot, but not everyone has it I suppose.

Coupla bucks in pretty much any size you want from Dick Smith or similar... you don't need a heat gun, matches work fine... or a reusable butane barbie lighter from Woollies is even better.

If you're cheap there are plenty of suitable glass light units in the local wreckers... A lot of older cars came with non- sealed beam 7" units that will fit straight in... I used to have a set from an old Landie. Bosch 30W mini relays cost $8 last week. And, unless you live in town, 80/100 bulbs are GOOD idea.

When I pulled my Cooper S apart I found that the left hand headlight wires were joined by just twisting the wires together and wrap a bit of tape around them. :lol:

They were used by the factory on the late 77 and 78 model harnesses! Only 2 though.

Ok I'll tack my electrical question on here.. :)

I am fitting relays to my headlight wiring like the how-to instructs.
But i have a new wiring loom from minispares, and the wires running to the headlights in the new loom seem to already be 5mm as they look the same size as the 5mm stuff i have and are noticably thicker than the rest of the loom.
So does this mean i can just leave those wires to run to the lights and just fit in my relays mid-way to take the load off the switch???

Yes those wires will be fine.
Most people including me just cut the blue/white (H beam) and blue/red (L beam) wires up at the firewall and splice the relays in there.
All the headlight switch and high/low beam switch see then is the coil current to the relays.

Tim, have a look in my last thread just gone (not happy jan) this is what I was doing amoungst other things, :lol:

This thread that you brought back to life was about what I have only just completed,, some months down the track,, haha.. took my time didn't I??.. but yes you can see in the other thread that I put the relays down near the apron panel, to hide the relays from view :)
