Interesting point tad,

Im a Audiologist so have more then a passing interest in this area. The inside of a mini acts just like any speaker box. Mine resonates with very loud low frequency sound, such as when a truck goes by. If you feel you are not hearing as well after driving/being in your car then you have a temporary threshold shift in your hearing acuity. In laymans terms that means the noise is too loud an prolonged exposure will lead to irreversible noise induced hearing loss. Earplugs are a cheap and easy solution.

The iPhone app is not ideal, its hard to calibrate properly in real life situations and has a upper limit which is easily reached. Plus where you hold the phone will influence the readings.

Don't get me started on the gunsons carbalancers!!!

Dad seems to think that my mini is too loud, and im just curious of how loud is too loud. To me personaly i dont think its that loud compared to other minis, but he reckons its not legal.

Just a tip Steve , listen to your dad, i'm guessing he knows what he's talking about ,
fair chance he's been there , done that ! Can't beat experience , eh !
And don't think for a minute that the constabulary won't knock you off for noise if they get the chance . :!:

I know the app's not ideal, but I decided after posting on here that I should do a new test with the app. Just for a before and after on the effect of the FatMat. Then it dawned on me - I can't do that until I get a dash in it. I'm using 'Dashboard' for a speedo... I've got a calibrated speedo ready to go in, just need the dash to hold it in. I'll try and remember to do it when I (eventually manage to tie down a few old mates and get them to help me make it and) get it in.

And, just to confirm the FatMat was the way to go... My 2 year old always asks for the Mini now. Before, she usually preferred the 4WD. :)
