Progress! I have sourced (it is on the way) the correct 62921027 generator which has the fan but no pulley so I will put an ad for a 1H998 pulley in the wanted section. This generator was taken off a MK1 S in 1970 and correctly stored and the owner has checked it for me and it looks in very good shape. It is dated 12/68 which is very close to my 11/68 wiper motor so it won't look out of place. I guess I need to find a voltage regulator next. Can someone tell me which one of those I need? Thanks.

The control box is part 37290 for all generators (Lucas part RB106-2). There must be plenty of these around given they were installed in most Australian Minis pre-alternator. They are the unit with a big black plastic cover mounted on the side firewall on the driver's side of the engine bay.
