It's a panel with a track in the middle for the automatic garage door opener. I don't think I can change to a roller, I'd have to change both sides.

Can possibly mount it higher using shorter brackets... Need to measure properly.

The thing with not bolting them down is it won't take much of a bump to make the whole thing unstable, and you are intending driving another car under it, which could potentially give it that bump. And your are then in the car under the unstable structure, once it goes there would be no stopping it. There are no triangles in the whole structure to stabilise it, you are relying completely on the pin joint formed between the platform and the posts - but the posts can rotate around those pin joints - you can see the movement when the guy is trying to push it around. It does not look like much, but that is only a bloke hefting his weight against it, not with a car sitting on top.

If you had some fold down outriggers on the posts you could be pretty sure it would be stable. But you sound like you don't have the room for that, so just bolt it down.

Are you still in the same apartment Chong?

cheers
michael

No, own house with double garage.

I see, not too sure anymore about not drilling... I have no idea how thick the concrete slab is and just can't stomach drilling holes... Yet

Drilling concrete or brick is no biggie, but as said check the slab is not a `waffle pod'. Should be shown on your house plans... ave a look.

I wonder if a titling contraption like this would offer enough room to squeeze two minis in a single bay? Would be tight I imagine...

Interesting, but won't all the oil and water leak out of the engine?

In Japan you see them around all residential buildings, as space is very valuable they have special hoists to park as many cars as possible in the least space. Why not move to acreage? This is Australia.

Lillee even the "movable" one appears to have holes in the baseplate.

As mentioned earlier there is no bracing in those systems, it is created by having a rigid connection to the floor.

You need to investigate what the floor is, choose a type of hoist with that knowledge and get it installed to manufacturers instructions.

If in doubt about the floor part of it find an engineer near you who can investigate it and sign it off. It shouldn't be that expensive if you go to one of the small firms.

Slightly delayed post - just saw an add for wild boar hoists and wondered if all two posters have low enough adjustment to go under minis?

the one listed stated lowest point as 120mm?

A couple of timber runners on the floor would fix this if it was an issue. Good pickup.

If the main consideration is storage, and you are talking about the concrete pad of a residential garage I don't think you can look past a 4 post.

4 pros: concrete thickness less critical, no faffing about positioning arms and spacers to park, usually more compact, re-enter the car no problem

4 cons: suspension/brake work

2 pros: suspension/brake work

2 cons: mounting absolutely critical, have to get out of car to move arms and spacers, can't re-enter car while it's lifted,

What about the 4 post versions with the internal lifts? Are they worth the extra to get the best of both worlds? Like this one http://www.aaq.net.au/shop/detail/autol ... ent-hoist/

Hey Lillee,

I've been looking into these too - suburban Sydney eh! I have a similar situation with a narrow garage that won't accommodate a standard 4-post hoist without blocking the doorway. I've seen a few posts on other car forums giving a local hoist business the thumbs up - new and secondhand systems. Check out :

http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/showthread.php?91770-A-new-toy-tool-for-the-garage&s=47509a2a40fbb79ffa323a0b92263c49

http://performanceforums.com/forums/showthread.php?67268054-WTB-4-post-hoist-Sydney&s=471ad951fef39b5dcc6fcf1fa5c959a8

I haven't looked into it any further, I figure I should get my car in one piece before I shell out money for a hoist! Too many projects etc etc....

peruse a copy of Unique cars or Just cars - there have 3-4 hoist company ads every month of all different sorts. Wild Boar included as one of the newer companies on the market.

I have a copy of each here if you want them.
