This stuff has been in this container for 5+ years - Plastic is looking old -wouldn't like to be too rough with it as it will likely crack like old plastic does. I'll just treat it carefully until the day I end up standing in sticky sticky goo!

No not at all.

An interesting thing with it. I make up a drink with it (highly secret and patented formula) using milk and the milk will go several days past its normal time to go sour. The molasses is quite an excellent natural preserver.
That's been my experience anyway.

But does anyone know what effect it has on galvanising?

If you want a supplier in Melbourne try the stock feed place near Flemington Racecourse. $18 for a huge drum of the stuff. Looks good enough to eat but my wife doesn't think so.

And DON'T PUT ALLOY COMPONENTS IN IT AS IT WILL EAT INTO THEM!!

HRS

And dont put any iron parts subject to wear in it.
Molases removes rust using chelation so along with eating rust it will weaken any metal it comes in contact too and if given enough time will eat away the base metal. Thats why no engine shops or of the shelf de-rusters use chelation to derust.

You are much better of using electrolysis its a hundred times faster and it is safe.
