The bonnet should survive with minor bending.
I had just spent $400 on the brake system, $200 on a complete engine tune, and have
rover gauges, electrics and brakes sitting here ready to throw in.
I'll hold onto the engine as a minimum, since I know it runs quite well.

Hey Harley,
Man I'm so sorry about your little on, its hard to believe that something can just happen like that
It seems like yesterday that we were chatting on the Romsey cruise.
I agree with Makka though, just buy a shell for $500 or so and put all you bits into it. It will be easier for you that way!
I can find you a shell for next to nothing if you want to do that.
Im glad you are OK tho :D

As stated allready go the new shell.
You have all the parts there and the replacement shell will have some parts.
Take the best of both and hopefully have a nice car like you had.
Im of the understanding you will get a pay out for insurance so that should pay you
the costs for the rebuild.
Im sure you will plent of help rebuilding
unit

MAN... looks like we have the three...

Steve and Mikey
Duc
Now Harley

Man I hate seeing any minis crashed up. Its just not fair. There are so many Magnas and Camrys out there... why couldnt it happen to one of those........

I would definitely go the new shell and swap parts. Man most of the drama is in parts so if you have em all, its less drama..!!!

Sorry to hear about the crash. Like everyone else has said I would put your parts on a new shell. At least you have nearly all the parts you need and it shouldnt cost too much.

How fast do you think you would have been going when you hit the tree? Why do you think the seat saved you?

I have no idea of speed. I slowed to 50 for the turn (in an 80 zone), and I hit the tree about 10-15 meters out of it. I wasn't getting any faster whilst going sideways,
so impact speed was about 40 I'd say.
As fot the seat, because of the deep bucket design, I didn't keep sliding when the car stopped, unlike the clubby seats that were in there a week ago, where you slide turning into the driveway. These seats also sit lower and further back, keeping my head away fron the shifted roof and shattered glass. The photo shows how far the drivers side has come in compared to the passengers.

Dunno. The car was under insured a little, and a good quarter of that is eaten up in excess and other fees.

looks repairable to me..
how long have you been on your P's?

i'm sorry you had to learn the hard way, i did too.. but not in a mini.. i got a mini to avoid these sorts of things as it's the best handling and cornering car i could buy.
just gotta remember to keep the throttle on when cornering, i've never lost traction in the wet in any mini, and they are renowned for wet weather roadholding (monte carlo rally) what tyres are on that car?

and i hope you can get her back on the road again.
