Nepean Classic Cars at Penrith were selling the MK1 ID plates new. This was 10 years ago though. They were about $25.

I have bought a few blank plates from different suppliers, they are all slightly different to each other which is actually good for hunting out fakes.

I don't care if a car has a reproduction plate, but if a car has a reproduction plate I want to know the story behind it.
It can't be a "genuine unrestored original barn find matching numbers car" with a repro plate.

Anyone know the significance of the different methods used to stamp these two ID tags?

The first one appears to be stamped by machine except for the last bit of the engine number, while the other is all by hand.

The second plate is an early CKD car, the plates were like this until around 63, by which time someone got a sore hand stamping and the factory bought him a present!

I bought the shell off Richard, Do you know him?

It is magic. Pure magic.

I have no idea who Richard is or where the car comes from. Every time I see a photo of an ID plate on ebay or gumtree or Ausmini I grab a copy of the photo to add to my files to try and make sense of the car numbers.
I have about 1500 photos of ID plates. Somehow your number was one of the ones in my files.

All I know is the info on the plate and the date I added it to the file which was 25/4/12.

any chance you can do a check through that little database for 11537 ?? my body is missing Id/body plates also.

thanks
Leroy

All BMC plates (not just Minis) were hand stamped till around 1962/63 when they got a machine.
But there are a couple of hand stamped plates after that time, I guess the machine mucked up or the operator was sick.

The ID plate was only there to make life easy for the dealers. There is no legal requirement to have one. I would cover up the top number before a rego inspection to avoid confusion though.

It is very hard to find out the original engine number without an ID plate but in this case it is quite easy, I already have a photo of the ID plate!

I've been trying to sort out the registration details for this car, I don't have the old plates or know what they were. I tried a REVS check, using the bodynumber 13190018620, but got back:

Search Criteria Details
Serial number search type: ChassisNumber
Motor vehicle: 13190018620
Registration state: Current

Registration Details
No Registration exists for this serial number.

NEVDIS Details
Vehicle information is requested from Austroads' NEVDIS database for each transaction involving a vehicle VIN or Chassis Number on the Personal Property Securities Register. The data is not part of interests registered on the Personal Property Securities Register and it is presented without any guarantee regarding its accuracy.
The NEVDIS data is intended to assist users with checking that the VIN or Chassis Number they entered, along with information they have about the vehicle from other sources, is accurate and to provide users with any data held on NEVDIS about a vehicle's stolen or written off status.
If you require further information regarding the NEVDIS data please look at the PPSR website: http://www.ppsr.gov.au. NEVDIS has responded with no vehicle information for this serial number. This is possibly due to an error in the serial number you entered.

Not very helpful, is there any other searches I could do to find out the old licence plate number?
I went to the rego department today and was told: In SA, If you don't have the old rego plate number you have to take the car over the pits, which I am not keen on doing
Does that sound right?
