Bill B thank you for the dimensions of this plate. Clearly the plate cant be fitted after the 2 parts of the lever have been bonded together as winabby points out. To reproduce the plate I will make the lower one with the round hole in it then the second layer in two halves to provide the parallel sides. Fit both layers to the lever and spot weld them together. I will make it out of 2mm plate which will finish equal to the recess depth on the inside of the boot.
Thanks also to winabby not just for this little bit of info but also for the service he provides that allows us to be enlightened to the whims of BMC!

In case it helps here are the BMC engineering drawings for the plate and the original boot.

If someone has a contact in the rubber manufacturing industry they might like to remake the boot.

Yes, that's right. You can see the part number AYG3084 in the Remarks column.
