ffs take your mini to a mechanic or something..
clean it before you work on it, it might help.
a choke cable is a $5 part.

a couple of ideas about the idling...
1. the timing chain needs replacing
2. you have a vacuum leak
3. your choke piston is sticking
4. carby piston sticking

if your carb is as dirty on the inside as it is on the outside you'll need to disassemble and clean it with carby cleaner

This thread is outstanding Camel! You should be proud. One day your mini will be perfect and you'll have only yourself to thank for it! 8)

how much of the story did you read.

It all fixed now  8)
whats a mechanic
mechanics are too strange to let the fiddle randomly with your own car
and they like monies - of which i dont have

really,
im not interested in making it work perfect, all i want is for it to start up on the weekends if i want to go out somewhere, and it does. It works, its noisy, it has brakes, and it goes quick enough to pass a lot of people :P , eventually
its great
i like it
but as i said, or maybe didnt
this story is over for now,
i had whole, i made broke, i made even more broke, i made even more broke than the previous more broke, i yelled , got angry
and then got it going again
Brilliant i reckon 8)
mini = super tuff, and everyone knows it
they earn respect for you 8) :P really

lets see what else i can do

You tell 'em Camel ! :D

I learned my basic mechanics doing exactly the same thing to my first mini.
This thread should be compulsory reading for newbies

If it ain't fixed, break it
I've rooted more good things trying to make them better than actually fixed things. Dropped brand new fog lights, stripped threads, snapped off drills inside castings, dropped things into inaccesisble holes, lost vital components and generally made things worse. But not often have I done the same stupid thing twice. And along the way, I've worked out ways to do things with what I've got to hand.

For example, cutting cables: Put the cable into a set of pincers, then twat the pincers with a hammer. It cuts the end perfectly stright without crushing the cable like if you cut it with wire cutters or snips. So it doesn't unwind and go all goofy.
