well i'm in perth so it wont help you much.. but they slogged him 200 bux..

we started sanding it and sanding and sanding.. it was taking days and lots of sore wrists and elbows and burnt out sanders.. i'm not sure what paint was on there but it was almost as if it was enamel with hardner in there because it was harder than two-pack.. when we found out it was only 200 bux i almost killed him

heres the end result (excuse the tyres.. they are bald so we didnt mask the tyres (only the rims) much easier to push it around that way

he is yet to get new tyres (havent convinced him on 12s yet)

Hi,

My name is Tim, I live in Fitzroy in Melbourne, my girlfriend and I own a '95 Spi Mini Cooper. I'm planning on buying a 2nd older Mini as a project once I move out of the apartment building I'm living in at the moment.

I've been lurking and reading the forum for a while without registering, its been enjoyable so far!

Tim

howdi folks, my name's Darren, and i'm from Brisbane.

Anton put me on to the message board - thank you again!

I have a 1977 LS, which I've had since 1996. it trials me so. i'm slowly trying to get it in better condition, but it's a really tough process. just as you think you have all the work done for a while, something else breaks (or a Nissan Serena hits you at 80km/h).

edit: I should also mention how I got in to Minis. I've had one in my family for a large chunk of my life. my parents bought a devil yellow clubman when i was only 6 or 7 i think, and we had that for quite a time. eventually, we also bought a 1977 Sunshine, which was in great condition and a car I really loved. sadly, they both eventually had to go, and the Sunshine went about 18 months before I got my license. when it came time to find a car to learn to drive in/run around in, I was fairly keen on getting the Sunshine back. however, the people who had bought it off us had trashed it, and we found it with a snapped rear axle and panel damage on every panel. instead, i ended up getting the LS i have now, and the rest is history.

Time to formally introduce myself, I have put several posts up so far. My name is Bill, I live in sunny Brisbane (although anybody that lives in briz will tell you that lately there has been too much sun, not enough rain). I own a 1967 Delux (at least I think it is, it's definitely a 1967). At the moment it is languishing beside my house under the carport having been taken off the road last october when the rego ran out, waiting for "the big rebuild". It currently has a 1098 with some work and clubman drum brakes. I have been collecting bits and pieces for it over the last couple of years, my dream was to basically have a whole pile of new parts that I would bolt on to my pristinely panelled and painted body, but really, I'd rather be driving it, and it's going to take a while to save up the bucks for the standard of panelbeating/painting I want, so I'm biting the bullet, getting it together and back on the road with what I have. I have a cooper 's' motor and box awaiting reco, planning on a hotter cam, weber (40 or 45, the argument continues in another forum), metro turbo vented discs and 4 pots, lots of shiny 'bling bling' bits, fully adjustable suspension, spring conversion, new magnolia gauges.... the list goes on and on. My plan is to build it up as a works rally replica with the spottys on the front and bonnet straps etc etc. I've owned the car for about 5 years having bought it minus motor and box from a guy who had already done most of the hardwork like paint, upholstery etc. It still cost us over 7k to get it on the road with the reco'd 1098 and box, and over 12 months of dicking around with the 'mini specialist" (no names to protect the innocent) but generally happy with the work he did. Anyway, thats my car.

I've been into and owned minis for 20+ years (14 at last count) but apart from this one, I have never built one of my own, and really, somebody else built this one. So that is why I am rebuilding it again (myself) so it is my rebuild, my car, and hopefully it will end up being the mini I always dreamed of building (except that it will never be a genuine cooper 's')
