Rang the painter again today to once again be told to wait another week, so now body for my project is to be delivered next weekend 8th.
Removed the body kit that I fitted over the past few evenings and reinforced a few weak spots. Next job is to put the body back onto the rotisserie and the trailer ready for transporting. :)

Put a cheapo $99 Tomtom GPS in it to check the S 200KPH speedo.
Speedo seems spot on at 50 & 60K, reads 1-2 high at 80K.

Being completely mechanically inept I still managed to go to Repco buy a set of points and change them over.

Never in my life have I started with a car that didn't work and finish with one that did all by myself!

I'm going to go fix something else now

Finally got the mini out of my garage now that the neighbours apartment has collapsed post Feb Quake Christchurch. Just need to reunite it with the engine! Yay!

The building to the left used to have garages like the one in the background.

1. Put a TDC mark on Gafmo's van's harmonic balancer, and checked the timing... found it was `a bit' advanced, idling at 33°BTDC...
It's OK now. 8)

2. I made a bunch of wiper shaft escutcheons (Oz cars, 1968>1978) for Mini King. If anybody needs some, he will have them from Wednesday..
p/no (from Mini K book) is 62710622.

Early ones (`1961>`68) available next week.
These are all machined from black HDPE plastic, they don't split like the old rubber ones did.

crap yea it's coming together nicely - LOVE the quilted parcel tray.

Do you have any more photos? It looks mint!

How long until you're on the road again? Is the engine and everything still in?

Tried to set the timing.
Previous owner riveted the grille in so had to do it british van/early moke stlye.

Then gave up when I couldn't turn the dizzy because of the huge brass t-piece that was splitting the oil light and oil gauge sensors. Ill probably have to take a grinder to it.

Also did a quick compression test, Is 10PSI under a significant amount, (cylinder 1 and cold) Will do it properly when it idles.
