Finally got Marion's club permit stuff sorted, popped the plates on and took her for a spin - to the shopping centre where I bought a vacuum cleaner that cost more than Marion did when she was new

I put two Monte Carlo flares on my mini today. They took me 2hrs each to install. It's not an easy task fitting a set of aftermarket flares for the first time. Quite nerve-racking drilling holes in my panels.

I have a system sorted though. I will post up a how-to on drilling holes dead centre in the little 10mm flanges on the gaurds. It involves a little guide bracket that i made up out of tin.

Good bye old friend, you were taken from us all too soon.

Can I ask why?
Cheers Pete

I sold it.

Simply because it did not fit very well in my car with the carbs
I had my heart set on quad carbs instead of fuel injection, but with the carbies and a fixed grille moke, it fits, but not with room to work on anything.

If you look closely, the face of the caby sits at about a 25degree angle, and the bottom side is hard up against the grille. Leaving next to no room for a filter
Changing the points would entail going up from underneath the car, same with an oil filter change
Just not something I can see being user friendly

So it's coming out in place for a SC motor in months to come

Cheers

Today i cleaned the spark plugs and distributor ready for a drive down to Dunalley. she went like a dream until i got home, went to start it to put it away and had no power.
turns out there was a bit of water on the battery terminals in the engine bay. all fixed and running fine once again.

Installed the radiator in the race car, after having a pipe fitted to the top tank, to take the water from the aux rad I run. Decided to run it into the top tank instead of into the bottom radiator hose where I had been runing it.

Also set the tappets, rerun the starter motor cable and made up a new 6mm cable from the alternator to the solenoid. Then removed the front hubs for ball joint and wheel bearing pre-load overhaul.

Took the dash out of Mokesta to see why there is always a mis-fire. Couldn't see anything wrong and the mis-fire was still there. Jiggled a few wires and the change of tacho when indicators are on appeared to go away. Maybe the voltage reg for instruments is stuffed??

Emptied most of a can of carby cleaner into the inlet while revving the tits of the engine and the mis-fire appears to have gone (at least when not under load). Can carbon on the valves cause a mis-fire at mid to high revs? The car badly needs valve stem seals and a tune. It gets bad carbon build up on valves.

With the dash out I decided to fix the split washer hose and tried the wipers. Oh dear, about one wipe per 10 seconds. Took the Presslite motor out and found that one of the magnets has come un-glued from the stator housing. Re-epoxied that and am waiting for it to set. I hope to have a driveable moke for the muster.

I won't have time to re-paint all the dash parts that so badly need it. Will just look like a dunger at the muster.

Oh, and my new Newton Commercial cream/black interior set arrived for the 850. NICE!!! Door cards, dash, carpet, rear seat covers and foam, 2-piece hood lining, sun visors etc. Very well made I must say and they packed it in two consignments to avoid the $1000 limit. Champs.

I took the cover of after 8 weeks,
I checked oil, water and ride height
It started within 1 second of the key turn,
I drove it to a inner city party.
I drove it home after party,
I parked in the garage,
I put cover on again.
