^^^ If you look at the one on Minispares, the principle becomes clear and you can make one out of a wire coat hanger. Don't use washing up liquid though, as it contains salt which can damage the paint. Car wash soap is fine.

I carried on making seat mounts, making 4 x crush tube/spreader plate assemblies to go in the crossmember and painting the mounts for the rear of the seats. Also cut some meranti ply to replace where the rear seats went (Estate, ya see, becoming a van).

Don't use the chinese wire hangers for this, they bend like wet spaghetti... :x
Buy the right tool, they are cheap for what they do.

Pulled out the nearly 5 yr old Exide 550CCA battery (which now has a leak under the lid) and replaced it with a new Lion 580CCA one.
Wow the Lucas starter spins the 1412 fast now, you don't realize how much cranking power a battery has lost until you fit a new one. :P

After fixing the Motor bike for my brother, i decided to pull all the plugs on the mini and clean them, also cleaned the points and battery terminals.
Then noticed my accelerator cable has seen better days and decided i need a new one. Ill probably order that tomorrow.

Got prepared to replace the steering rack & also discovered I have 8.4" disc brakes.

Looks to be a bit fiddlier than the rover, but fingers crossed it's a straight forward job.

After a couple of years procrastinating I finally got a round tuit, and mounted my Aldi fire extinguisher. It's now on the LH wheel arch next to the door. :P

Decided I wasn't going to get stuck looking for a tie down point on back end of mini if it ever goes on a trailer. Welded some strap points to rear sub frame before painting.

EDIT: Removed tie down straps, too far from original. It would have worked well but I think it would have bothered me knowing they were there. Back to original now :?

Might make up a removable tie down bracket for the back end?

Painted black coat on subframes today!
Also tried to salvage original hydro lines by silver soldering one of them that was a bit rusty, but not worth the pain in the end. I have rang John (Mini King) and will see how we go trying to get some new ones on the way?

The pipes are steel bundy tube. A hydraulic place like Pirtek (or even a good hydraulic place) should be able to make cut some new ones and stick a flare on the end.

I had an extra one delivered ( literally delivered to my door ) , 76 Leyland Van , its had a good life , few bumps and bruises from the previous owners sons, paint is tired so it wont be a show and shine entrant , a few ripples and spots of bog but its 35 years old what else do you expect , 998 sounds fine just needs a refresh- timing chain etc , it shouldn,t take too much to get it roadworthy again but I,m not expecting to be able to rush it

.

Took the Moke in for rego inspection. Somehow the flasher unit had filled up with water so in replacing it I dislodged my wiring spaghetti from beneath the instrument cluster.

My snarky mechanic decided to fail me for the hanging wires - I have to come in to the workshop and tidy up the wiring on Monday because "a man has to draw a line somewhere".

This seems a fair quid pro quo for forgetting to put a spare tyre in and leaving the back seat bolted in despite the 2pax limit on the compliance plate.

There is no requirement to carry a spare wheel for rego.

Yeah I was going to make some at work but we only have JIC and limited BSP fittings. Also considered using hydraulic hose but trying to keep original were I can.
Just want to get it going now  Thanks for the tip, i will see how John makes out and take it from there. We have a few local hydraulic companies in town but usually charge like wounded bulls!!
