Mikey and my traveller's engine number wait for it spooky wild willy 8AM-U-H115139 is november 60 8 engines apart. That car was UK built not Aussie built. Our seat mounts are welded to cross member with no seat belt mounts as they only became law in 1965- 65 or there abouts. Austin 1800 first car in Australia with front belts as standard and mounts for rear belts as standard.

Going to look at car on ebay

Steve

is the car number the one on the firewall or the one on the radiator panel? i am getting confused. my radiator panel says 42074. my firewall says 41962. engine number is 8y/u/h 1439. gearbox has 1451stamped on it. what does all this mean? its a 1963 morris 850. slate grey, red interior. original engine. being restored. i bought it in bendigo from its first owner.

just thought i would add this just in case some one would need it. places to check build dates are:

flash can, boot latch, voltage regulator, indicator switch mechanism, the back of the toggle switches on the dash, floor mounted dip switch. wiper motor. starter motor, the back of the bakelite horn button ( this one is sometimes very faint), floor mounted starter botton. ignition barrel. i think the back of the little voltage control unit on the back of the speedo? , i think the fuel tank sender has it too. and also the fuse box has it.

there might be more but this is just what i have noticed over the years whilst working on a standard 850. hope this helps someone

ok i have a june 1960

also a 1965 mini and they are all rust free, amazing that the minis back then were buyilt form rust proof material unlike the late 78/79/80/81 models were injected with rust.
