correct, if your car has headrests then it is not going to have
basket weave seats. they changed to normal vinyl
in 72.

BUT I WANT ONE JULIE!!!

hehehe, im just glad that you two are
putting the original seats and crap in and making them so original.
thats all i want to do also, but if you are doin it then you are taking
the hassle away from me !!! hehehe but i still wantone!

Handbrake grip:

I was flicking through a book and noticed a pic of a 1970 Cooper S, with a ribbed handbrake grip. My GT also has this.

Anyone know which cars were fitted with this as standard?

Also from the same book.... A Clubman was only called a Clubman from Sept 1971 to April 1972 !!!

:?
Parts book doesn't show any ribbed handgrip or for that matter any other type of handgrip. Seem to remember them being an aftermarket accessory.

I'm not convinced the interior was basketweave at all, by looking at these original gt pics, but I may be wrong.

my understanding is that late GT's didn't have basketweave vinyl.

I will snap some pics of my basket weave seats this weekend.

minsta,
Thats the second type pattern. Same as in mine. Has embossed stitching. Apparently only used on later seats with headrests.

JAM - nah - mine is just a shell and I don't have the interior at all! I saw that pic on a website somewhere. I was told the Gt did have a GT emblem on the gearstick, but not sure if it looked like that pic though. I have a gear knob but i don't know if it is the correct version. It doesn't have the blue and white checks on it, just a white sticker and red gt letters. It will do until I am told for sure. I am slowly collecting all the proper parts - mine was (still is) just a shell, with the wrong wheels, no engine, on dry susp etc and the wrong tacho. I now have the right wheels, the right tacho, all the original panels (by the look of them) and I am trying to find other gt or early clubman bits, such as the centre ignition, too. It will be a long process! How complete is yours and was it expensive?

Hey Anton,

If that is a pic of the gear knob that came with the GT, love it for all it's worth, protect it with your life etc as it is the original, and correct, gear knob for the GT. The 'check' pattern is a sticker and the red GT is engraved/painted onto the button. Rarer than a rare thing and even harder to find!

Gavin

Yep, that was the knob in my GT. Unfortunately for me, the original owners wanted to keep it. Now I know why.

I snapped that pic of it before I took the GT to my place.

At least I have a good reference to find another one, or get a repo made.

Sorry Anton.

I was going to give it to you but Wayne (old wise 'Mini' one) Witcombe wasn't going to let it go.

Now I know why.

Sorry mate.
