Late Rovers have diff ratios chosen so that they would pass the drive-by noise test and also so they would be reasonable and fuel efficient on the UK motorways (at about 115 km/h). This is why they have such low ratios. It doesn't make them better.
I've just changed the 4.1 diff in Mokesta to 3.7 so that I drop from 4,100 rpm @100km/h to 3,700. But I am running tyres of smaller OD than standard.
