After wearing out 2 sets, I'd rate the Dunlop SP9000 195/45x13 as "Great" to "Excellent" in dry or wet - when compared to other wide 13 inch road tyres - but probably drop that back to "Good" when compared to narrower and/or smaller diameter tyres.

Disagree - would rate the SP9000's 'Excellent to Phenomenal' in dry and 'Excellent' in wet. Cost per tyre was $220 from Stuckey's. Wear rate is spot on.

Also, Dunlop categorize them as 'High Performance', not 'Good Performance' and this I feel is a more accurate description.

Can we update this please? Otherwise, great job 1018!!

Cheers,
Tricky

Sure can Tricky, anything for you mate :)

I have updated it but I won't post it because I don't want this thread getting too overloaded with pics of the table.

<edit> tricky, I should add (this is where it gets hard) VicMini13 has already said Great to Excellent and you said Excellent to phenominal - so I've gone down the middle and just put them as Excellent as it seems you both agree on that. Sorry but I can't please all of the people all of the time.

Keep it coming people!

1018,

What about an extra column with a thumbnail pic of the actual tyre?

1970 Mini K - which size? Is it for the car in your avatar (ie 12"?) or 13" (just so I can clarify which ones you are talking about)

I can certainly do that - but I just have some reservations (unless someone tells me differently). Obviously the pictures will be from the manufacturers and be subject to copyright, could I use those pictures? Or would I be limited to pictures taken by individuals (of ausmini of their own sets of tyres)?

I disagree with the 'cheap and nasty' rating on the kumho powerstars. I understand that they are definitely not the best tyre but they are cheap, offer relatively good performance for a daily car, last for ages and fit standard rims perfectly.

We have been running the kumho's on our minis both on the road and for motorsport events (motorkhana, hillclimb etc) and definitely have not been disgraced or let down by the kumho's. In terms of value for money I think they are a great tyre.

Cheap maybe, but not nasty

Just my two cents

Totally agree. Bargain tyres for $60-$70

does it matter whether they're good or high,
a performance tyre is a performance tyre
i dont see why we need to call them phenomenal, a race tyre is a race tyre.

When I started doing it I needed different levels to distinguish them. This table is primarily for road tyres (because that's what gets asked about the most) and for a road tyre they are phenominal (IMO). I know where you are coming from and fully agree - these semi slicks aren't as good as a full slick around the track.

Can you really rate the SP9000's as Phenomenal when compared to an R compound tyre? i mean really ANY R compound tyre is going to be phenomenal when fared against your normal road tyre's and the SP9000 is still designed as a performance road tire rather than a street legal race tyre?

Having never driven on SP9000's i'm not saying otherwise - i just think the benchmark has to be the R-rated rubber as "phenomenal" or whatever else you want to call them and everything should slot in underneath accordingly?

Also rubber has gone up alot with oil - 13" A048R's 6months ago were $220ea now they are $230+ from the same place. (gorden levin, emu plains)

One suggestion - put a date on the table something like "prices correct as of" helps everyone know - and maybe we can keep the table referenced by each update and we can see the price trend as it goes up.

Best 10" road Dunlops IMO were the old LeMans.
Gafmo has my old ones on the wife's K, with Formula Rs on the other end.
Whichever end the LeMans are on, hangs on better. Go figure... 8)
And they are so old & hard now, they will never wear out! 8)
BTW they are still good in the wet....

Anyone? Would it be safe to do just because it's a reference table and is not going to be used to sell? I don't want to put ausmini in jepardy.

(BTW Tricky - I've put in piccies and it looks so good - but I'll wait to see the verdict first as I don't really know what the go is)

Ok, we need to work out a grading system of some kind - obviously Mini Mad has a point - I can't really comment as I have never driven with 13's.

should have no probs with pics - your helping them sell tires  if they have a problem they will just ask to have them removed.

IANAL, but I do take a keen interest in 'net legal and copyright issues. I can't see how reproducing a stock image of a manufacturer's tyre is going to upset anyone at all. If it's published on the 'net, an image is pretty much free to use as long you reproduce any copyright statement or attribute its owner.

For this use, I'd say include the images -- this is a reference work in the same vein as Wikipedia, and I can't see that they'd withhold a stock image out of fear of copyright infringement.

In the unlikely event a manufacturer objects, they're going to request an image be removed, and it'll only get nasty if you don't comply.

[edit] IMHO you're more likely to get a complaint for an unfavourable review or opinion of a crap tyre, than the images
