Just another thought I've had to throw into the mix - why not paint the bonnet white, mask up the stripes then have her airbrush red along the edges to fade out into a white background in the centre area of the bonnet for the artwork. A small more detailed piece of art is sometime more impressive than a big one with less detail. It wouldn't lend itself to an engine bay, but someone suggest the 1-2-3 of Minis coming down the cutting, or an Italian Job theme, or maybe portraits of your children when they were younger, or even several pictures of all of the above.

That ripped open bonnet looks cool, too bad you can't get a real close look at it though.
