Also you only need a pink slip, no blue slip. rego will be a case of a brake test and thats about it.

Aaron, how does that work? Do I tell the inspector that it will be going on historic plates and they don't check it all out?? Then issue a pink slip without a blue? I am confused........ :?

It has been out of rego for 5 years and has NO PLATES on it at the moment........ :( So those glorious original plates are no more......

J_A_M.....how long has it been since it was last started??

Might pay to pull the plugs, insert teaspoonfull of light oil in each pot, engage 4th, rock back and forth up to 0.5 Metre say, until satisfied pistons moving up and down freely.....then....try and crank it over??

it is a conditional rego, the miniclub of nsw and the RTA only requires you get a pink slip. Thats the rules. As it is a Classic car it comes under a different set of rules. A hot rod on the other hand has to be engineered for club plates. Have a look on the miniclub website all the info on what you need to do is there, or just ask and i will try and clear it up for you. The car doesn't need to be registered prior to getting club plates. The inspector just needs to be told you need a pink slip. they may say you need a blue but you don't.

Shame about the original plates but you wouldn't have been able to use them anyway.

Cheers

Aaron

hmmm........good suggestion. Thank you!

The old guy said his son used to drive it up and down the driveway to 'keep it going'.....but I get the feeling that was at least 2 years ago.....maybe more.

What happens if I don't do this?

Yep. Just incase everything is dry in there, better to lube it up before hand, don't wanna risk it.

If its been a sittin, you can get moisture forming a rusty crust on the rings/bores. First time you try to crank it, with a dry bore you might find one or more rings get caught! I suppose it is more sympathetic and easier on things to work it gently by hand (further and further each time)....untill you are moving the car about 0.5 metre...

My 'matic had been sitting 10 years when I got it. Bit of oil down the bores, take off rocker cover, WD40 the valve stems, cranked it over.. one valve was a bit recalcitrant (word for today) so persuaded it gently with a BFH.
Got it going, it didn't even burn oil!
As far as I know that motor is still a goer (in the blue Clubbie auto pic a while back)

went back today to get the thing home.

I took the battery from my Lancer and wacked it in. Cranks well....and all the electrics work.....just needs fuel in the tank to start

Some tool had put the fan on backwards, and it had fouled on the harmonic balancer and shredded the fan belt. I fixed all that, then went to remove the rad to replace the bottom hose. #@%$ that......what a biach of a job. I ran out of time and patience, so just left it.

The old guy said he will get a jerry can of fuel and fill it up. He even said he was going to buy a new batery for me

It sounded better than JAM when it was cranking over.....no ticking...it ain't a bomb!

One thing I do notice is that roundies have much less room in the bay than a clubbie! I can't get my fat knuckles in anywhere!

Of course, it's a long legged 1098, innit. Not the short legged 998... :P
