Glad to hear your OK and not too badly banged up . Bugger about the car - they just don't want to repair cars these days. My first Mini in the 60's was shunted from the rear and shortended considerably and another time had the front nearly taken off by a right turning driver. Both times insurance repaired the car, now days they would write it off at 100mph

I'd do what I could to keep the car somehow - wonder if you can insist they repair it

Sorry to hear about it Joe, and as has been mentioned earlier try to get on the good side of the assessor and chin up mate, unfortunately this sort of thing has happened to a few of us and serves as a reminder that life wasn't meant to fair. 8)

I'm sure you'll know that if you're thinking of selling some parts, that BlAM will buy the twins off ya. :wink: :)

Im with SGC, let your insurance company go through all the money follow ups, that is what you pay them for... A lady once drove into a mates parked car and wrote it off. Luckily she left a note and it was all sorted out, her insurance company wanted to keep his car as they were going to pay him out for his car. But he managed to get the pay out and keep the car, something to do with it not being his fault...
I also had a mini written off and if i had my time over i would definatly buy it back. Replacements are just so expensive, you will never get what you had for the same amount of money..
Hope erverything turns out ok for you and all the best

I've come into this late, but I'll add my condolences also. it will be a tough call as to whether it will be worth buying the wreck back for parts/repair vs putting the money into something already running.

i think it is repairable, but the buy back price will determine if it is worth it.
Sorry to say.

When it comes to Mini's, I won't insure them without salvage rights. There's just no way you can insure a car for the value you put into it -- wheels, carbs, interiors, you name it.. the shell might be written off but there's usually a ton of stuff you can strip for the next car. No way I'll let the insurance company get their hands on that sort of stuff.

I am sorry too Joe.

Some on here have given very good advice - re-read the posts and think about what was said by them. Absorb it. Then clear your head of the frustrations and anger. You can get a good mini out of this by playing the game properly. Either Tiny or a reshell - but not by being angry. The buy-out on Tiny might be as little as $200 plus you also get the payout figure. Insurance dont value wrecks the same way we do.

Look at all the different routs, if it was me I'd definitely get it back if the insurance write it off minis are definitely worth more as parts than a complete car.
Add it up, you say Tiny is insured for 5k;
Disc drakes=$1000-$1800 to replace
Rear brakes=$200+ to replace
Seats=$500
A rust free, straight shell, ready to paint=$5000
Paint=$2000
Suspension=$500
etc etc etc,
The replacement price can be very high if you break it down so keep Tiny no matter what :wink:
Good luck with whatever you decide to do anyway and I hope the guy responsible gets what's coming to him :x .

Sorry to hear about your car Joe
If you do a deal with the insurance company, make sure you find out if the car is a reapairable write off or a Statutory write off
A Repairable write-off has been assessed as uneconomical to repair by an Insurance Company. The VIN will be recorded as a repairable. write-off
Repairable write-offs may be repaired and registered
Statutory write-offs are damaged vehicles that are deemed unsuitable for repair, as the damage is too severe
Statutory write-offs are ineligible for registration

Sorry to hear about Tiny Joe,
While your Mini-less if there is a run on I will gladly pick you up mate.
And by the way, I understand Doogie has a Mini that he doesn't love anymore......
