The Dacia Sandero, top gears (well James may's) current favourite car, coming soon to a dealer near you for well under 10k.

Well raised Doogie, we are kind of limited by our own imagination (or exposure to foreign breeds). There could be a million and one little things in the Jap Kei class that are monster killers. Really, that is what we like about minis. There's no pretense, its just a little car that punches in a higher weight category.

Well, it does start off at a paltry $209,400 for the base-level XK for the less-fortunate amongst us and goes up to $240,100 for the XKR.

I think that's a reasonable comparison to the mini.

It also probably has just as much (as little?) interior space, and it's British.

That's it decided then.

its now actually Indian... and was bought out by the Tata group last year.... i shudder to think what sort of leather the interiors will now be (coming from a country that worships cows...)

Yeah, but as much as people know Holden is American, it is consistently referred to as Australian.

Just cos a bunch of suits in India (or one very rich suit as it may be) own the shares, doesn't change the fact that it's a British company. A subsidiary of an Indian company maybe, but British nonetheless. C'mon, it's not like we've got much else to cling onto...Morgan.....err, um...

Well, that's my take on it and i'm sticking to it...:)

For a car maker they have a cool almost interactive website (the French language version anyway)...

sorry if this has already been said but the yaris is pretty reasonable it comes in three different models from memory the 1.3l the 1.5l and the1.5yrs which is a sportier version i feel that these meet the criteria of the new affordable car for safety room and fuel economy and there quite big inside.

sorry to revive...

i was only thinkin of this the other day, im gonna take a strong stand and say that the modern equivilant would be the new protons... they are ugly, (some of them anywho...) packed with great technology (4 airbags, power windows, mp3 cd player aircon, ABS as standard etc etc) and a great engine (tiny 1.2L with 55 or 60kw?) and start at around 12 grand?

back to work i go... :D

As far as a slow cheap car goes maybe, but they certainly have no cult following.
