I understand that this car was owned by a policeman in country WA who used it as his police vehicle. I don't think it was actually registered to WA Police and wasn't fitted out with police items like in NSW. Whether that classifies it as a 'police Cooper S' or not is debateable.

In any case, the MK 1 Cooper S was certainly used by VicPol (2 cars only) and NSW Police (many).

yep... plenty, dad's was one in '68

edit: it would be interesting to know when they started using them - might have to look up an old TME to see - if you think about it, it's surprising they lasted into the clubman GT days as by that time they weren't the quickest things on the road compared with what the general population were driving (the "gotta drive one to catch one" principle)

The story goes that they got out of Ss and into GTRs because they couldn't catch Ma and Pa Hoon on the way down to the snow...

I can remember my dad getting pulled over by a Police Clubman GT on the Great Western Highway in the Mountains. It was his mate wanting to know the results of the footy!

The NSW Police had a lot of Rambler Ambassadors, actually the whole NSW Government had Ramblers. The Premier Robert Askin had a thing for Ramblers (he was probably getting a kickback from AMI )
They got Cooper S's after the Ramblers.
