A wise man once asked me, what would you rather, sitting in a car with illegaly fitted seatbelts that have a 99% chance of working or sitting in a car with nothing ?
I know which one i would rather be in...

Hey Phillz,
Yes, this is mostly a true statement. I used to run the child restraint checkup program for the two fire departments I've worked for, and part of my issue on all this is lap-only belts. Even for an adult, a lap-only belt is a the worst choice, except of course for being unrestrained. For a kid, we see things like spinal injuries from the front (imagine what happens to your organs when that happens), etc. So I suppose it's better than going through the windshield, but only marginally. That's why I'm really trying to find a way for lap/shoulder belts in the back. Given the latest discovery (that the speaker shelf isn't even welded all the way around), I really don't see this happening without major mods. But I'll keep poking around and perhaps something will make itself clear.

Thanks to all for the various inputs, it has really helped the wheels turn a bit.
